Radio problems are irritating...

Hey guys I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem as I do not want to spend the money right now to buy a new head unit. The cd player in my 00 runner loves to skip on almost every cd I put in it idk whats wrong, I burned a new cd off itunes last night and the cd works every other time and i get the code err 1 alot. Anyone else have this problem? Possible solutions?

Honestly, its most likely on its way out the door. You will spend more time/effort trying to fix the component level electronics in the radio itself rather than just buying a new aftermarket deck or used stocker.

DUDE,

go to a scap yard and pick one up. I just replaced my rear quarter-panel window with one from a yard for 1/3 the price. When I was there they had PILES of factory stereos. No one wants them, I bet you could get one for as low as $40.

Your probably right. I just don't want to take the chance of that one being bad too haha. Any suggestions for a good aftermarket one that doesn't look too ghetto?

Bump yourself to the phonebook or google and call your local scrap-yard. You can get a cheap stereo, they will guarantee it will at least play.

I might have my stocker still. I'm in Northbrook. Lemme check and I'll get back to you. I'd take $40 for it if I've got it.

EDIT: Got it. Last I recalled it worked too. Also have stock amp and a FJ62 radio too in case you wanna go old school.

Those original stockers may not have been built to play burnt CD's. And as the laser ages and dust/crud builds up they get even less able to play them. Try a real store-bought CD and see if it makes a difference. If you play burnt CD's, I would not look for another stocker.

I hardly ever play CD's anymore--my mp3 player plugs into my Alpine and life is much better without those things. Their time has come and gone all within the lifetime of the 4Runner.
