radio tuner problem

I have an '03 with the JBL sythesis system. As of two weeks ago, when listening to the radio the tuner will randomely tune to the next frequency. Example..if I'm listing to 100.9 the tuner might switch to 100.8 or 101.0 out of the blue. I checked AM and the same thing happens.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's really odd considering that's not even normal frequency stepping for North America. Normal stepping would be staying on odd numbers (I believe Europe uses even numbering).

So when this happens are you able to change frequencies or is it frozen there? When you do change frequency, does it go back to stepping normally, or not? Does it coincide with hitting any bumps or anything?

you're right with the frequencies. If I have it tuned to 100.9, it will change to 100.7 or 101.1.

It is completely random. It does not freeze, I can immediately change the channel or hit a pre-set to return to what I was listening to. And it has nothing to do with hitting bumps, as it happens while sitting at a light, on a smooth freeway, etc.

I would say it's just the radio. Maybe the PLL circuit is starting to fail, or even the tuning rheostat is failing. Quite a few things it could be. All of which, well, short of an issue with the buttons or wiring for the steering wheel controls, point to the radio being faulty.

Time to replace it. People are selling their radios on here all the time. Either wait for an OEM or go aftermarket.
