From the research I've put in developing mine, the factory rails are strong enough to hold a few hundred pounds. I've got a hi-lift, tool box and tools, and maxtrax on my bars, and I also stood on it at the same time, and saw no bending. Tents *should* be OK up there, but they're definitely not as strong as replacement rails. I was actually going to do a load test to see what the breaking point is of the factory rails next week.

You can PM me if you prefer to keep it out of this thread, but I am curious as to how you mounted a hi-lift on the stock bars? I have been thinking of doing this.

We will be testing the early 5th Gens early next month. We have a customer coming to visit from Colorado. We plan on getting tons of product testing complete and hopefully some new products completed while he is here.

I didn't realize y'all were based out of Texas, that's awesome!

The early 2010-2012 Trail Edition roof racks look like they had more support along the long side of the rails than the current version of the the 4Runner roof rails.

The other issue with these early rails was the spacing at the front of the 4Runner was wider than at the rear.

I'd be more than happy to drive down from Austin to have y'all take a look at my 2012 Trail

I like this setup way better. Elevating the cross bars away from the body of the vehicle. It's a pain as it is to pass straps with the factory crossbars.

When you get this going please let me know. I like it.

Thanks. I'm on beta testing right now, was going to be announcing it in a few weeks until this popped up.

They'll be available to order soon through a local off road supply company to start with; I don't have a web page up yet to order from. We're a fabrication company, and I've been building my own stuff for my 4R for a while now, but this is the first thing that I've done that is (was) different enough that I felt was worthy to take to market.

The stock cross bars are not ideal for a tent because they aren’t flat. For carrying some standard items I find them to be very capable. For some heavier items I would want something stronger and aftermarket.

Trixx, how do you have the recovery boards secured on the stock cross bars? Is it strapped or..?

Rok straps and a bike type lock to secure to cross bar and lift. Could drill some bolts and may eventually, however for a quick setup I’ve used Rok straps as securing items a lot in the past and found them to be very durable.

Rok straps are great, the combination of bungee and strap really let you tighten down on things. It’s hard to see from the photo, how did you mount your hi-lift and shovel? It looks like you used a mount of some sort and drilled through the factory bar.

There’s a lot of options that would work as you just drill into the cross bars. I’m happy with the hi lift mount but would’ve probably looked for a lightly sturdier option for ax and shovel.

It will be an add-on option and will work with any current MFRSS.

I do not have an update on this product yet. We recently moved into a larger facility and unfortunately have had some delays. As soon as we are back at it, this is on our list to tackle.

I would think on the 2010-13 Trails might be quite the hassle , guys that were buyin back then couldn't get it thru their heads that rear cross bar was way shorter & that would seem to me to be a small road block in fab options ?
