Rago Modular Storage Panel Shelf

I would do it again. Only thing I don't like is how heavy it is and it's not easily adjustable, say, if I wanted to put something bigger up top. It's quite a bit to unbolt everything.

Has anyone lowered it one notch from the top and have pics? I'm debating about dropping it down to allow a little more room.

Do any owners/users with real world experience of the Rago Modular Storage Panel Shelf have an update on how they like the product? Do you dislike anything about it? Would you purchase it again?

Cali-raised has this for cheaper. Not sure you can move it up or down though. Victory 4x4 has one and it is wider which I like. Less expensive than Rago but more expensive than Cali-raised. My preference at this point would be Victory as you can put a lot of stuff up there to make room below for sleeping two people if need be. But the $'s, do I really really need it?

4.5” with a 1” lip drop to help hold stuff on the Rago. 1’ depth. 4” wall behind rear seat to stop stuff from falling out. 3.5’ useable space across.
I store my recovery on the shelf, no issues getting to items or risk of it falling out. It will cut off part of your rear view vision, but not too bad.

Recommend attic if just holding blankets, jackets, etc (Raingler or BROG). Had the Raingler before and it worked very well, solid construction.

Hey outside edge to outside edge of the shelf(front to back) is 14” but there’s a 1” lip so only something that is 13” will fit on the shelf if that makes sense?

Worth it for me if I can’t get a LOT of stuff up there. Plus I use Velcro straps to hang gear on the bottom side of the shelf. Just my $.02.

I installed mine, I can't believe how heavy duty this thing is. I definitely wish the headliner was black, I have already accidently slid things into it and made marks.

I installed my shelf about 2 months ago. This stuff is heavy and a pain to install. After using it for two months and thinking about it, I wish I had gone a different route. If it were easier to adjust it would be an awesome addition, its just such a pain to unbolt everything only to adjust it up or down. Oh well, you live and learn...

I made a very simple DIY option from the white metal closet shelf from Lowes and a spray can of black paint...

Dude that looks I credible! I have Victory window panels and their shelf is way overbuilt. It’s huge! The reviews say it also interferes with the reclining rear seats.

I've had mine installed since last Thursday. I got it from the recent blemished sale. It looks fine. I don't have anything on it yet, but so far so good. It does rattle a bit, so I'm going to try putting some thin felt tape between sections and seeing if it'll quiet it down a bit. I'm also going to change out much of the hardware with longer screws. That should give some extra clearance with the felt tape, and I think the stock screws are a little short even without the felt tape. They might be making it to the nylon in the nuts, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just barely making it to the nylon.

Since i didn't want to make the same mistake again by buying a product that i didn't want or wasn't designed properly, i made a homemade shelving unit as a testbed to see if i needed a molle/modular shelf system, similar to the rago modular shelf, and after camping in my vehicle, i have come to conclude i need this shelf in my life.

I picked up a blemish versions since i didnt want to pay full price. Hopefully, i receive it soon.

I plan on setting it on the highest setting mainly since i run a fridge, and a drawer system, and i found that the space above the fridge is useless space. So a shelving system is good for utilizing that wasted space.

So while camping in my vehicle, i wanted a place to put jackets, clothing, or weird shaped items up there, while i slept in the vehicle. I also run a power wire to the fridge from the top down to keep the wiring from getting chewed up by my fridge slide. I also use it to hang camping lights. If you camp in your vehicle, you will soon find out you do not have enough space.

While driving, i needed a place to put my bedding up there. I sometimes even put my portable shitter seat up there. Anything oddly shaped goes up there.

Day to day uses, a good place to put a extra jacket, flip flops, doggy gear, but you can put heavier items if you so choose.

When you are offroading, you want something beefy. My homemade contraption sucked going over corregation, washboards, and woops. Either screws kept getting loose, or the metal would flex causing all sorts of a racket or stuff would move due to the vibrations in the thin pot metal. I had my engineering buddy go over my setup and he agreed, to solve my problems, I had to use stronger metal/steel than home depot shelving or everything will rattle apart due to the harmonics. The thing is i bought the strongest shelving home depot had and it was still to flexible under offroad conditions. So i started looking at rago again.

So is the price of this product steep? The answer is yes, but if you have a reason to buy it, its definitely worth it. You can definitely find some good uses out of this product, or you can just sell it.

So I did a little additional work on my Rago shelf today. Here are my observations.

Really torque down those button head bolts. Better yet, just change out all your hardware from button head bolts to conventional bolts. I think I'm going to do this over this weekend at the latest. I gave the bolts the once over to torque them down again, and I was stripping the hex slots in them. I hope I can easily get them off again.

While you're at it, get conventional bolts that are longer than all but two that Rago includes in the set. I don't like how long Rago's button head bolts are. They're a bit short and even after today's super torquing, I still think the bolts are barely contacting the nylon in the nuts.

If you develop a rattle by the panels, try loosening the bolts holding the L-shaped bracket to the panels, lift the shelf as high as it will go, and tighten down the bracket as tightly as you can get it. I think the corner of the L dropped and began contacting the panel this afternoon, and it was super annoying while driving home. I'm thinking about putting felt tape in this area to help mitigate problems. I was also thinking about putting felt tape on other metal to metal contact, but I might not need to do that after switching over to slightly longer conventional bolts.

I've got 20mm long m8 button head bolts coming in tomorrow. If I like the length of them, then I'm going to immediately order 20mm long conventional bolts and switch out the hardware with the conventional bolts later this week or over the weekend.

I need to learn how to motherloving read. I should have gotten M6, not M8. Dear me, what a waste. Another couple days of rattle, though it did improve some. I think I'm on the right track. And the stock M6 button head bolts are very strip-prone. I'm definitely ditching them as soon as I can.

installation wasn't easy. i first mounted all the fasteners upside down because it was easier that way doing it by myself, then once done, i flipped the fasteners to the correct way. It also, goes will with my cargo net (not pictured) and clears my fridge and drawer system.

Oh yeah, I replaced a bunch of the nuts and bolts with M6 16mm long hex head bolts, and it's so much better already. I didn't hit the really operative stuff yet, and I still haven't put in the felt tape in the corners of the L brackets, but I like how these bolts work. You can actually see the bolt come out a little way through the nylon. I really have to wonder if Rago's supplied hardware is hitting the nylon at all. Also, with the hex heads, you actually stand the chance of breaking the bolt by overtorquing it with two wrenches. With Rago's supplied hardware, you only stood the chance of stripping the button head bolt's tiny hex slot. I feel much more confident with this hardware. I'm looking forward to redoing the shelf with this hardware and the felt tape. I might even replace all of the side panel hardware with this hardware as well. I tested it in the lower spacers, and the thread pattern is the same as well as being the same size. The M6 bolts thread into the spacers. I'll have to be especially careful about not overtorquing those, but still. I think this is going to make the shelf much, much better. I'm going to finish the main job on the shelf tomorrow after work.
