Rain Guards/Window Deflectors

I'm sure this conversation sits somewhere, but the search queue came up empty.

Has anyone experienced additional/unbearable wind noise after installing window deflectors/rain guards?

Any pros/cons to the various mfgs.?

Any input is much appreciated!

By the way - Following this forum has added an additional $20k "mod tax" to my rig. Great looking rigs and solid advice on here.

I don't have rain guards yet, but i'm extremely jealous of your house.

I know most peeps go with the WeatherTech. I've had them on previous rigs and never recall any noise. I've been checking out the AVS seamless, those looks pretty sweet but not sure how they function.

weathertech in channel ones. This is the 5th car i've installed it on. No added noises.

I had no problems with the Vent Visor stick on type. I did have a problem with the in channel ones. I think one of them is still in a field in southern Illinois after it blew out of the channel one night. I was riding with all four windows down at 1 am while making a run to Kansas City. When I got there I only had three weathertechs left lol. Oh well.

I bought the AVS window guards. They are the externally-mounted ones. I had the WeatherTech in-channel ones on my previous truck and I didn't like them. They scratched the window and would come loose every once in a while. Plus depending upon the time of year (i.e. summer vs winter) the auto-stop function of the anti-pinch on the auto windows would kick in. They looked good though. But overall, I really like the AVS units and would highly recommend them.

Oh...forgot... they added NO additional wind noise.

Weathertecs.

Had Weathertecs on our '08 Mitsu Outlander and recently put them on our '16 4R. No noticeable wind noise. - Cheers, Ted

I had the wethertech in channel ones, the fronts just pop in but the rears require double sided tape which came loose on two separate sets so I pulled them off. I think it looks much cleaner without them anyways.

I have the in-channel since 2011 and no problems/wind noise. When I installed mine, I cleaned the channel with alcohol and left the windows up for 2 days. I drive with the windows down now on the hwy and they're still holding up. Some encounter problems with auto-up feature which doesn't allow window to go up if it hits the vent visor. That problem occurs when the vent visor doesn't seat fully. My preference for the in-channel was that it looked cleaner.

I've had the in-channel ones for a few years now on my 2011 with no issues. Still hanging tough!! I used to have the stick on ones on my old 4Runner. This is a much cleaner look imo.

Thanks, it's a friends place, lucky enough to be there weekly though. It's on a lake in western NY. I recently relocated to NE Ohio so it's an easy weekend drive. Lake life has replaced mountain life.

Anyone have issues with the in-channel versions affecting the tint? Thinking about picking up a set of WeatherTechs, but wondering if there's any visible wear that might arise from the window coming in contact with the deflector inside the channel/having a tighter seal when fully closed. I'm planning on tinting my fronts to match the rear windows, and would be disappointed if the deflectors were to diminish the quality of the tint over time.

I have the in-channel AVS rain guards/visors from Amazon. I prefer this over the external because of the low-profile. I don't know how others are but I do not have any issues with wind noise.

Only complaint I have with the visors, which is a bit annoying, is separating the visors from the plastic on the package. This sounds silly but because the package is vacuumed closed, when you try to open it, the cover on the 3M tape gets stuck onto the plastic.

Also, this is probably related to all visors but it does block your window view. When I drive through the mountains and want to look up, the visors do block your vision.

UPDATE: I read that some people have the issue with auto-stop because the visor blocks the window from closing. I did have the issue occur for the first couple of days but after leaving my windows closed for 24 hours and them adjusting a few times, I no longer have the auto-stop issue. It takes a little adjusting but I think it will eventually mold into your window. As for the scratches, I don't see any scratches with my in-channel visors.

I have the AVS window visor also from Amazon and I love them. I've had them for about 2 years and no issue with any noises.

I’ll be switching to the AVS. Enjoyed the Weathertec in channels. They are tough, a few scratches but have survived abuse. Did break off small pieces when I installed them, which I think led to some minor scratches on the window. Also get wind noise, but I think it is due to a poor seal where my window meets the visor in the corner.
