Raingler Net *Group Buy* Winter 2016

I received my two nets yesterday and, at a glance, was impressed by the quality of material used and skill employed piecing them together. I'll post a picture or two and a little more in depth comments once I get a chance to test them out on my Gobi rack and on my storage platform in the next few weeks.

Also really impressed with the response time by Raingler when I emailed them a question late one night and got an answer less than 30 minutes later.

Question for those who ordered the same net. Are you installing and leaving as is or do you plan on installing/uninstalling for each usage? It's UV rated for 10 years and, honestly, I'm too short and too lazy to reinstall every time I need it.

I have the same question. I would like others thoughts on this.

I just got mine and installed last night. I had some increased noise at highway speed (which I expected). The main thing I worry about is paint wearing off my rack from the abrasion of movement. which would lead to premature rust. While typing this, I think I just talked myself into removing it an only installing for use.

They should really consider upping the price $10 and including just a basic bag for storage.

Then everyone pays for a bag that for some will just end up tossed in some bin. An optional accessory bag might be nice but it's not like it's difficult to get a cheap bag. Thanks to off-road gear I'm finally getting use of all these Milwaukee and Rigid toolbags that I've been stuck paying for as included items that I haven't needed.

but from a sales standpoint, a bag with their logo embroidered on it gets more free advertising than a rigid bag.

Had a chance to mount both of my nets today, one on the interior and one on my Gobi rack. These things are badass and I wish I would have gotten a set years ago as I can think of 100 past instances where they would have been much more secure and convenient that solutions I've used on all of my Toyotas. Firewood, jerry cans, and canoes on the roof. Yeti coolers, water canisters, duffle bags full of gear .... there's so much stuff these nets are going to help me get under control.

That said, definitely not going to leave my big one mounted on my rack as there's no reason to abuse the thing with exposure to the desert sun and bird crap year round. I plan on storing each net separately in one of the many spare bags I've got lying around, and then throwing them in my platform storage bins.

If Raingler wanted to offer an add-on storage bag with branding then I guess that'd work out for some folks, but considering how much these cost even with a discount I'm stoked they weren't an extra $10 (or more) for storage bags most of us would never need or use.

5th Gen Raingler Net First Use Install

I do not store mine in place as I do not use it while around town driving. I could see if you're using it constantly, then it'll be fine. The net is really easy to install although time consuming as there are several tie-down locations - give yourself time to install when using it.

I did do a custom net adding a 'square' to the length as well as width. I would have to say, that it was totally NOT necessary (kicking self in the butt) as the net is fairly large. If you think you need extra height, think about the longer strap upgrade instead first. I wish Raingler would have tried to talk me out of it when I discussed it with them. I will say that they are very well made and are a solid product worth the money.

I agree with many about the bag. Have several laying around that I made quick use of.

All of that being said, here is a pic of my first usage. I only installed the back and not the front net, as you can see. PLENTY BIG.

I have worked with ed at Raingler on improving the net. The new design will allow the net to go cinch up much tighter to the roof

I see now that there are five attachments per side on the full-length mesh version. Nice and snug to the roof! Doesn't seem to have made it over to the web version, as those seem to be newer photos too.

Any advantage of the net vs mesh, other than being able to poke things through the net?

Was last December's group buy greater than 10%? The OP of this group buy hasn't been on t4R since January, so I can't ask him.

He also said he will rework old ones as well

I got the net because I think it will be stronger and more tear resistant. You can also hook things to it as needed. If the mesh was heavy duty ( which I don't know) I might have gotten that as I only load from the middle anyways. I use it to hold billows and clothes
