Range Miles

I was just curious as too how many miles past the bottom of the range we can go...I have an 04 SportEdition V8 with All-time 4WD. I went down to about 20 miles left on the range and when I filled up it was only about 20 gallons so I just was curious as to how much is left in reserve past the end of the "range".

I have taken mine 10 miles beyond the range. i have determined that the range states 0 when you have one gallon of gas left

I too have drive a little over 10 miles past 0. I would not trust going any more.

The computer is conservative with the range since it uses the ESTIMATED MPG value that it also computes conservatively. Use it for what it's intended: and ESTIMATE.

I rarely let my tank get below 1/4 so it's not an issue with me. A lot of my traveling occasionaly has me many miles from the nearest gas station.

May be a stupid question but exactly how big IS the gas tank in a 4th gen?

Don't do it often or your fuel pump will be unhappy.

It is a 23 gallon tank. this is from memory but I recall having went 15miles past zero range on the computer and still put less than 22 gallons in the tank. I dont suggest pushing it much further.

I feel about about 20 over is the limit.

410.0 miles @ 23.0 gallons in March
402.5 miles @ 22.949 gallons 9-May
364.5 miles @ 22.582 gallons 25-July

It is in fact at 23 gallon tank. I usually fill up around 1/4 tank and it fills up about 18 to 19 gallons

I've gone as low as 7 miles on the range. 4x4 v8. I was on the freeway at traffic hour. When I got to the gas station I put in 10 bucks and range didn't change. Scary but that 2.2 gallons didn't move it.
To make a long story short. I ended up doing a u-turn and filled it up anyways. Take notice also that when you are nearing the end the range reading fluctuates depending on your driving.
Don't rely on how many miles you went on your odometer and think you have that same amount on your range. Wish i had more range in my 4runner. I average 330 to 342 with full tank.
