Range Rover TV program...

I saw a show on cable and it was aabout the Range Rover or land Rover ?? Are they the same thing or company ?? Almost pos. it was a Range Rover.

Anyway it was about the history and it showed alot of off roading Situation's and it was a pretty cool show. Don't know alot about them but the truck were stock with AT tire's,no lift's ect... and were quite impressive off road , climbing , water fording , even pretty good muddy trail's.

I love watching stuff off road that is basically in stock type form. It was pretty cool and they had these club's that met in different part's of the country and did their stuff......it seeem's like a pretty big following,family event that everyone get's involved in.

Wish Toyota would do promo's like that with their 4x4's. They had the factory people their explaining to everyone what everything did and going off road learning to use the truck properly. Damn cool IMO !

Range Rovers are made by the company Land Rover but are different from the models actually called Land Rovers (of which there are two basic models... Discovery/LR3 and Defender). Range Rovers were always the preserve of the "landed Gentry" in England, and Land Rovers were the preserve of farmers and the British military (they still are to the British military what hummers are to the U.S. military). They were designed first and foremost as off-road vehicles.

All of them have an off-road pedigree that is up there with Jeeps and are regarded as some of the most off-road capable vehicles in the world. Interestingly, Land Rovers were also (I think) the first mass-production car to use aluminum for body panels instead of steel. No rust, but there were problems early on with the welds between the Al panels and steel frame.

Thankfully, since Ford bought Land Rover in the 1990s, they have not messed too much with the formula. Of course, most people who own them these days never go off-road, but its nice to know the capability is still largely intact.

A friend of mine once owned a Range Rover in Spain and we went on some pretty ganrly trails with it. Always scarey with a $60K car, but it's built like a tank and survived many crunching blows, including once getting stuck on a rock in the middle of a stream. Give me a Range Rover over a Hummer any day!

No thanks... I'll take an H1 over a Range Rover in a heartbeat. Those are unstoppable (speaking from experience)...

The only downside to the Range Rover/Land Rover is that the Disco's were introduced as a lower price unit and had some reliability issues (kinda like what happened with the H2 and H3). Range Rover was largely untouched except for an addition to the nameplate. The LR3 seems to be trying to bridge the heritage between the Range Rover and failed Discovery... I think this will be the one to watch for a while.
