Range stuck at zero

Mine (range) also goes to 0 from time to time, usually within a couple of start ups after filling up. And also the fuel gauge will go to E and slowly return to full or return on next start up.
The mpg can be reset anytime by holding the button.
My range meter is never accurate anyway so it doesn't bother me. But, the first time I saw my fuel gauge on E after having just filled up, I thought someone must have siphoned the gas out of my tank lol :heh:
I never got to the bottom of it, it still happens every 3-4 fill ups.

Sounds like the sending unit in the tank could be going bad. I would also pull that info panel out and make sure the plug is properly seated.
OK, sorry I guess I should give more detail. I kind of just assume this might be a common issue and someone could pipe right up.
I have filled my t4r 3 times now and it has always stayed on 0 mpg and 0 range. My fuel gauge works perfectly fine along with the light that comes on when the fuel starts getting low. Just the part on the dash that has the fuel economy and range is not working properly. I have tried to hold the reset.
The lights on the dash and a/c controls work correctly, so I don't think it is the plug in the back (unless its one pin that is bad).
I was thinking about disconnecting the battery to see if that would do anything. My assumption, without knowing much about this, is that the signal comes from the ECU. I am not sure if I could grab a Toyota scan tool and see what the range is to confirm it is actually doing something. I suspect it is probably sending the signal since the fuel gauge works.

Eh, there's a thread I posted in a long long long time ago regarding rough ideas on how "Range" and "MPG" are calculated by that little screen. It's pulling data from a lot of sections including the ECM to come up with it's numbers (how I can't tell you exactly). So maybe the communication line has an issue?

I think the MPG staying at zero indicates the likely source of your problem. If that's reading zero over a long period then so too will your range. The MPG computation is derived from the wheel speed sensor signal and the fuel injector #1 pulse. Since your speedo is working, we can assume it's getting a valid speed pulse. Check for a signal at C9-8. This will pulse to ~0V when the injector is open and battery / charge system voltage when it's closed. If you don't have a scope, your DVM will probably just show a number somewhere between 0 and battery voltage if you have a good signal.
Assuming your signals are all still there, then either your cluster electronics have failed or (more likely) the data signal feeding the trip computer info to the center console display is missing / corrupted. Check to see if a prior owner cut and/or tapped any wires behind the center console -- perhaps for an aftermarket alarm, stereo system or other add-ons.
