Rapid Clicking Sound/Vibration from Brakes

I drive a 2002 Limited with 115,000miles. recently when i use the brakes to stop quicker than normal, the brakes feel weak and make a rapid clicking sound and i can also feel the pedal vibrating.

its not daily, but frequent enough, and only when i step on the brakes to stop suddenly.

any ideas?

At 115K, when was the last time you had the brakes checked ??

had the brakes checked a year ago, original brakes, dealer said i had 50% of the pads left

It sounds like you're at the end of their life. New rotors and pads I see in your future.

Sounds like the abs is working when you stomp on the brakes suddenly thus causing the vibration, but the weak pedal could be air in the lines or a dying master cylinder.

the brake line has never been flushed/fluid replaced. is it worthwhile to start there?

low pedal is NOT always your master (sinking pedal while holding brake is a bad master or leak)
most of the time it is a pad that is siezed in the holders, or slides siezed or the caliper piston siezed

the clicking can be siezed up pads in the holders causing a clicking when they are trying to engage

if you are feeling a pulsation in the pedal it is your rear rotor/ drums out of round

if you are feeling a pulsation in the pedal and in the steering wheel it is your
front rotors out of round..

is your ABS clicking on while braking every time?

it only clicks and pedal feels weak when i hit the brakes hard (sudden stop). all other times, its normal feeling.

Welcome to the world of 3rd gen 4runner ABS. You could have a leak or a bad master also, but the ABS in our trucks is old and the techinology sucked when it was designed.

Really easy to get it to bump and grind when stopping on hard-pack during a snowfall.

i have a 2010 limited with 14k miles on it and i feel like i've been having the exact same problem. i'm gonna try to take it back to the dealer this weekend because i'm still under warranty. would it be possible that i's have to replace the rotors so quickly? sorry for my inexperience, but i'm new to this whole thing.
