That looks like a nice one, but holy moly, $14K plus tax and license!! That's waaaaaaay too high. I would pay about $10 or $11K out the door tops for an '02 with 86K.

Yeah theres no way were gonna pay 14. Were gonna try to get as low as we can by showing him a cashiers check for the full amount we want to pay. Salesman like that right?

Yeah, and don't be afraid to just walk out on them too if they don't want to wheel and deal. They won't be selling it anytime soon at that price unless they get a sucker so I would just leave them my card and say "gimme a call if you change your mind about my offer". Chances are, they'll probably cave in in a few days.

Little update for anyone that cares.

So we got back into town and stopped by the dealer today while they were closed for Easter. It's nice to be able to look around the lot without a salesman following you around.

We still need to run the VIN before we approach the sales department. Does anyone here have a carfax account?


I didn't take any pictures but we did get some more information on the vehicle:
Cons:
-fist sized dent on rear passenger side quarter panel (about where the gas tank lid would be, but other side. Should pop out sort of cleanly)

-rear bumper and hatch appear to be slightly skewed. Possible fender bender?

-clear coat is peeling a little on the roof, in the gutters.

-front bumper has lots of tiny little chips in it, like the vehicle followed someone down a dirt road for a long time a bit to close.

-Needs new tires and rear end is sagging.
(we were gonna get a set of 32" BFG AT's and OME 906's anyway.)

-Cheap 'supercharged' sticker badges by all the Toyota badges, should come off clean though.


Pros:
-Appears to have a TRD catback exhaust as well. No TRD headers though

-leather seats are in excellent condition

-Interior is clean, no visible stains or cracks.

-Absolutely NO RUST!

-OEM security system (may have been in the limited package, I need to research that)

-Stock wheels are in excellent shape

Judging by the cons you listed, that thing has been worked over to have such things wrong with it at only 86k and isn't worth even 10k in my mind. Don't be blinded by the SC. I'd be more concerned with finding mom a good ride than what I could get out of it.
Find a decent rig with 120-130k or so for half their asking price and go find an SC to put on your rig.

Oh of course, we are not going to even think about moving forward until we can get some records in our hands. Depending on what we see, the search may go on.
