Rattles when accelerates

Need suggestions as for where to look into.

There is a rattle noise when it accelerates and happends only when the speed is between 20-50 mph. It disppears when my foot leaves the gas pedal.

2000 Ltd 4WD at 68k.

That's pretty limited info to be able to diagnose a rattle.

Where does the noise seem to be coming from?.

Is it a light rattle, or a heavy rattle?.

Did the noise just start after a service was performed on the 'Runner?.

I have a 97 with a similar problem and in my case its in the muffler. It only rattles when I accelerate @ low speeds not a problem @ higher speeds. The mechanic told me that the inside of the muffler is loose or has come apart. Hope this helps

this has previously been diagnosed as coming from the muffler, as the above says.

its the heat shield on the catalytic converter.

That does sound like what Matto experienced. It has not been serviced recently. I did not notice it before. But once it caught my attention, I hear it everytime now.

I now have a direction to look into. I will post an update once I find out anything new.

If it was recently serviced, they may have removed the skidplates, and left them loose when they re-installed them.
