I got the same notice for my Subaru Impreza. I had to take the car to the dealer to have the firmware updated to use the newer cell phone network.

Is this something built into the Entune system, or the truck’s computer? Or is it something paired with your phone via Bluetooth? I’m aware of the phasing out of 3G, but this is the first I’ve heard of it effecting our 4Runners. I have an ‘18 SR5.

I don’t think it’s Entune related. I pulled out the stock headunit and SOS still works

if your car as cellular remote start, or you use entune to do something over the cell network like download apps etc.. then when the 3G is discontinued those features will be lost.. thankfully we don't use any of these features on our 2014 so we're not going to miss anything.

We went through this with our GX460 though, that has cellular remote start but apparently since ours is a 2019 its got the upgraded hardware for 4G, 2018 and older has 3G connectivity, so thats sad for those folks.

The only thing I do with my phone is to play music via Bluetooth from my inexpensive Android smart phone over the Entune system; in addition to Entune being connected to my phonebook and messaging. Otherwise, I don’t have any cellular services connected to my truck that I’m aware of.
