I don't know how you guys are getting such good mileage. I have a 2wd '05 V6 (I purposely avoided the V8 and 4x4 for gas reasons since I'm not towing or offroading - bought it for reliability, space and resale). I baby the accelerator unless merging on an interstate, regular gasoline as recommended, and over 60k mi. (half and half city/hwy) I'm averaging 19.3. This is on flat SCarolina highways going about 75mph on an interstate trip, speed limit otherwise. RPMs never get above 2500, and it's gradual to that. I'm telling you, there's no way I could be getting better mileage as far as driving style goes. I truly thought that I was getting good mileage until reading this thread. My computer says I'm averaging 20.5, but it's about 6% less. With that said, for a truck style, midsize SUV, I'll gladly accept 19mpg for what it gives in return.
27 mpg in a 4 runner? No sale, unless they lowered the horsepower rating since '05 or something. I know consumer reports says they averaged 16 mpg in their tests, which seems low to me.
