Problem solved by yours truly...

I had to explain to this guy with 45 years of experience how to install a shock... he wanted to remove the top mount nut right then and there with the coil spring uncompressed.. it would ahve gone boom in both of our faces.

SO the problem was that they used the wrong bushing on the shock top nut thing and the washer was clinking around. Here's a photo of their egregious mistake



They're going to fix it, hopefully without removing the shock like they want to. And they will fix the alignment for the fifth time.

I would never take my car to that shop even if they fix it for FREE. They are clueless.

Yep, I'm done with them and I'm becoming increasingly confident with my skills and slowly building myself up to doing bigger jobs.

In the end, it's all nuts and bolts..

Great, glad you figured it out buddy! Yeah that's pretty sad when a guy with that much experience doesn't know better than to loosen that nut under compression. I have personally seen a spring go through the roof of a building when a guy cut the top nut off with a torch! ( NOT AT MY SHOP!) lol
