Really bad oil leak!

Hey guys so changed my oil last week and now it's leaking like crazy. At first I thought maybe I got 1/2 quart to much and it was being pushed out. But now, I've got oil all down the passinger side of my truck from wheel well to bumper. I check the oil and it was 1 1/2 shy. It's always lost a little bit but this is way to much. I checked the filter, it's on there pretty tight.

If it were me I would double check that filter. Perhaps drain the oil, remove it, and check the oring, make sure the filter isn't cross threaded or anything.

If you can see that the oil is coming from around the filter, do what jrob suggests and also check to see that the old oil filter o-ring isn't cooked onto the block. Sometimes a small piece can stick there and the new filter won't be able to seal quite right.

If it isn't your filter, it should otherwise be pretty easy to spot with that much oil pouring out. If it isn't easy to spot I'm sure that you could find it at idle.

gotta be that oil filter. prob got a piece of the old o ring stuck on the block or the filter mount . :iagree:

Also, did you lube the ring on the filter with oil when you installed it? If not, you may have torn the ring.

Thanks a bunch! It was the filter. I stopped and looked with the car running and it was pouring out of the filter. Thank God we live in the what use to be the motor capital of the world. I was able to zip into Advanced and fix it on the lot. That weekend I put in a new starter, fuel filter and changed the oil. The last owner was such a bone head, some how he stripped out the oil plug. I had to take a pipe wrinch to it. We've had to fxt so many mistakest that were made during the time of his ownership. I guess I got a little frustrated and was in a hurry to get my shop day over with!
