Rear air bag suspension removal - LTD OWNERS

My xreas is shock is leaking up front, so in planning on ditching that system I'm still left to deal with the zero lift options of having the rear air suspension.

Has anyone taken out the rear air bags and successfully installed coils as replacements?

yes, there are also kits sold for it. you can also set the RAS to a higher postion. heres a couple to get you started but theres more if you search. the links are also on this forum. Well your not left with zero lift options. You can always adjust the suspension to give you a couple inches of lift.

But if you'd like coils in the rear you can always buy a conversion kit. I don't think they have one for the 4runner specifically but the kit for the Lexus GX470 works. Someone over on toyota120 or ih8mud has done it.

Here's a link to Rebar's build, IMHO it's not the cleanest looking solution, but it works.

Also here's my build, but I went with leaf springs rather then coils, so again, probably not the cleanest looking option but it's works and is super fun offroad

Thanks guys! I didn't want to reset the RAS to a new ride height, I guess I could and when it breaks go to full conversion at that point.

I'll take a look at the threads, RAS was a term i hadn't seen/used that's for the leads again.

Any feedback on the suncore kit vs the strutmasters? I too would only be using the spring perch/clips for the rear. I would upgrade to better shocks and springs.

I might have to wander over to the 120 board.

I've looked into this pretty extensively. The swap is easy and I personally wouldn't pay for a conversion kit. All you need is something to hold the coil in place. Here's an old thread I made summarizing what is required to do this.

Do I need anything for the bottom or top of the actual coil spring?

How will i go about mounting the actual part?

You need two of these for the top, I found some on Cragislist.

I am doing this conversion on Saturday to my 2005. I went with the OME 2895 myself.
