Rear Axel Leak

Ive got a 99 limited 4X4 with 232,000 on the clock.

A few months ago i noticed a lot of oil above my right rear wheel well and had a rubbing noise when driving, got it checked out and found out my rear axel was leaking. I am not very mechanically inclined at all. My mechanic got it fixed up and running until last week when I had the same issue again. Its been fixed, already driven about 1000 miles moving from LA to tucson, AZ. He said if it leaks again it means my axel is bent and Im going to need a new rear end, any help? thanks!

I agree, it's probably not bent. I would start looking around to see if you can figure out what is rubbing. I could see the brake dust shield being bent and rubbing, maybe even on the drum... If you don't see anything jack it up, spin the wheels and maybe you'll hear something. How did the mechanic explain that he fixed the leak? It's quite an extensive process to remove the brakes and get to the seal that causes the leak. I hope this guy didn't just drain out some of your diff oil to stop the leak. Who knows maybe he's not the type of person to do that, but if he's telling you that you need a new diff that sounds pretty crazy!
