Rear axle moves

So today I had my friend drive me and our girls in my 97 4runner. And talk about flex. He had the truck FLEXED LIKE A MOTHER ****** it was awesome. To see what it is capable. I trust my buddy because he is the only person who works on my 4runner and very good driver. Anyways had the rear driver side wheel about 2 feet of the ground. I had to dig the front tire because if I didn't it we would lf rolled. But its all good. Team work !

Anyways, driving back on highway, we noticed that the truck goes to the left side ( driver side) when pressing on the gas pedal. And it felt as the rear would shift to the side. I have after market research UCA and LCA from MStudt, which I trust. I'm wondering what would cause my axle to move side ways when accelerating ? I also have panhard drop bracket.

Yes we FLEXED the truck, but come on. It's a 4runner. The one side of the rear sway bar link is broken. But that shouldn't be issue. The rear UCA and LCA are like few months old. And this was the only time we truly FLEXED the truck. I. Wish I would of taken a pic guys. Because it was epic.

Any ideas on where to look?

SOunds like you twisted a link or blew a bushing/joint by over flexing.
Stock arms in lifted situations can only take so much before something gives.
Thick walled DOM tubing, Threaded bungs and big Johnny joints help prevent stuff like this.
Inspect your rear suspension
 
Haha, haven't really looked under the truck. Was seeing if anyone could point into the right direction.I'll try and look and see what I can find.
 
Your control arms and the panhard/track bar are what locate the axle front to rear and side to side. Those are the places to start looking. If they check out, look at the mounting points for each bar.
 
take a look at your panhard drop bracket. Is it just bolted on or welded on also? When I put on mine to bring my axle back to center after the lift I had only bolted it and hot damn that thing was scary to drive at highway speeds and did pretty much the same thing you described. It has since been welded and I havent had a problem in a year.
 
Panhard bracket is bolted and welded with a cross piece tieng it in. I will look at the UCA and LCA and panhard bar. But couldn't imagine the rear UCA and LCA going bad already....:( let you guys know soon
 
so you are running the sway bar only connected to one side?

how about no. take it off all the way, it either needs to be connected on both sides or not at all, other wise it can interfere with the links and is probably causing your steering problem.
 
Yea, basically the passenger side sway bar link in the back is BROKEN. But the driver side is still connected.

The rear disconnected on one side is not okay. The front you can get away with but rear will bind abs get caught up. Can also bend rear sway bar.
 
I would fully inspect your suspension bushings. remove each link and inspect the bushings and replace them one at a time at ride height.
 
I will inspect it. I really appreciate all your inputs. I wanted to ask you before I went under and looked. The weather is really shit :(

It feels as if something is loose because as you hit the throttle while driving it feels like the back end shifts which makes the truck pull to the side then it goes away.

I will inspect the UCA and LCA bushings. Buy gosh they are brand new. From [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION]

I'm going to bet that your lower control arm bolts are loose...
 
Mine did the same thing. Panard Bar Bushings were shot. Replaced them and fixes the rear end shifting under acceleration problem.
