rear brake caliper frozen?

I think I have a rear caliper frozen...

I have been hearing a rumbling from the rear end and isolated it to the driver side rear brake as it starts and stops when the brake pedal is pressed or lifted.

Took it apart tonight...

These are napa pads replaced summer of 2014 at 94k miles. the truck now has 111k. I'm thinking it's a frozen caliper but when I put a c-clamp on it, it went back into the caliper really easily, much more easily than I thought a frozen piston would.

Do yall think 2 new rotors and calipers are in my future or do you think I should reuse the caliper?

Replace everything. That's what I'd do. Do it, then not have to worry for a while.

Your pictures don't seem to be working but if you do end up replacing your calipers you might as well switch to ones from a 5th gen. They are reportedly having less issues with seizing. That's what I'll be doing front and rear on my '06. I think I've got front and rear calipers sticking.

I had frozen rears and replaced all 4. Smooth braking since and no issues.

1st, is the caliper dragging? Does that rotor / hub get HOT compared to the other(s)? If so, something's causing it to drag. If the piston seems fine, check the guide pins. They can stick / freeze. I have had that issue before.
You CAN get them working again but it might not be worth the effort. I did get mine working and have been fine now for a while. NOTE: this was on my 2nd set of rear calipers.

I did notice a hot metal smell a few days before so it probably was hot...but I didn't put an IR thermometer on it.

Don't the caliper bolts double as guide pins? If so, I greased those very well with hi temp grease and they slid out very easily.

Since these are original calipers, I'll replace both rears....not looking forward to bleeding the system tho.

I agree, that's the best route. Bleeding the brakes sounds like a pain though.

I've bled brakes on my muscle cars before but definitely not anything as recent as 06.

It's not that hard. But you'll want two people. Someone to depress and press, the other opens and closes the bleeder. It'll take 20 minutes for both.

Yeah, probably. I've always used two people

For the rears all you would need are 5th gen calipers and pads. The fronts will require those along with 5th gen rotors as they are large in diameter than what comes stock (assuming you have an SR5). That being said you will also need 17" wheels or larger to clear the front calipers/rotor combo.

Just saw that you have a Limited. I believe those already have the larger front rotors so all you would need to do the fronts would be calipers and pads.

On the limited, just double check as I think having the larger Sport brakes was an OPTION.

Got it. Wasn't aware it was an option. You'll either have 319mm or 338mm (12.50"or 13.30").
