Rear Brake Issue-5th Gen Swap

When I upgraded to 5th Gen set up I stuck with 4th gen rotors in the back. According to the write up I followed the 5th gen rotors would not fit in the back.

I remember reading conflicting reports so I wasn't sure and figured oh well I'll give it a shot....didn't work though

I ended up swapping on the old 4th gen rotors and adjusting the e-brake shoes in all the way on both sides and that fixed it. So now I have 2 rotors for a 5th gen that have scratches from install that are worthless to me. You think I can return them or nah?

Calipers should be fine. It's the center bore of the rotor that's the issue.

I understand. I'm just investigating other possibilities.

All the same for me. It wasn't until the rotor was off that all noise was gone. It was with the wheel on that this was the result. Long story short this was costly for me as well as I thought I had a busted diff and had it rebuilt.

All fixed now for me, I put on the old 4th gen rotors and adjusted the e-brakes all the way in on both sides and there is no noise or movement

Moral of the story for anyone doing 5th gen brake swap....DO NOT USE 5TH GEN REAR ROTORS....they don't center up correctly on the axle center bore(there's about 2mm of slop)...also make sure that you pay very close attention to the dust shield on the front calipers and that the e-brake shoes are not hung up on your rotor before you try and remove the rear rotors. You will bend the pins and have a nightmare trying to re-do the assembly.

Glad you solved the problem! I had the following typed yesterday morning, but for some reason it didn’t post, and I never came back until today so I didn’t notice.

This may not help with the clicking, but with regard to the rotors... after much research I discovered that the 5th gen calipers and pads work fine with the 4th gen rotors. In fact, there is no advantage to using the 5th gen rotors anyway, since they are the same dimensionally as the 4th, other than the center bore being different. So, when I ordered my new Powerstop brakes, I bought everything separate so I could customize it the way I wanted. I bought the z34 extreme towing pads and rotors for 4th gen, then bought the 5th gen calipers. Everything went together perfectly. Well, except for the parking brakes, but I was missing ALL of the internal components when I bought the truck, so that made sourcing components and getting them to work a bit challenging!
