rear brake pad replacement

heard squeaking and grinding sound and found right rear rodor has developed scoring. i wanna replace the brake pad myself, but i don't have a torque wrench. Does it require a torque wrench to bolt the caliper on the rear brakes? also, the scoring is not wide and deep, do i need to replace the rodor as well?

help appreciated!!!

I've never torqued a caliper back on and have had no trouble. get it tight tight. also a local parts store can usually turn a rotor for $10-15 if there is enough material there to remove. I'd also recommend that you replace left and right pads at the same time. Good luck!

I've done dozens of brake jobs over the years with NO torque wrench. Regardless, you can get a torque wrench at Harbor Freight tools for $15.00. There is a Harbor Freight tools near you in Urbana: 217-344-4856. Good luck.

Always a good idea to replace the rotor as well when doing pads. Rotors are cheap, just find whatever is the cheapest and use those.

i agree with this. i always buy the cheapest out there and find it good and never had any issue. Meyle brand is a good one since they have the coating to protect the metal.

Thanks, folks! I've had rodors and pads replaced on the rear wheels. there was high pitch squeaking afterwards. After braking a few times, it is ok now.
