Rear brake spring rub on axle!

Reinstalling everything with new bearing seals and shoes, but there is no clearance with one of the spring retainers and it rubs on the inside of the hub.
How should I resolve this? Shorten the stem this goes on with a few washers from behind or what? This would pull it into the housing farther.

Thought about it and saw that the retainer pin was straightened out some so I bent it back and it pulled everything together snug

New mounting hardware isn't all that costly, if I were you I would have replaced the mounting hardware.

Good point. Might pick up a set just in case I have to get back in there. Wish I would have thought of that sooner. I made the initial adjustment too tight now and have to unscrew the star adjuster now through the hole.

I did end up getting new hardware as the old stuff didn't hold right, and I had dragging on the brakes.
There is a front and rear spring for shoe tension. The stronger one goes on the front to keep the shoes centered I found.... After putting it all together once.
I'm still getting just a little dragging, but that's likely due to me adding a couple turns off zero when I put it back together. I suppose, wheel off one more time and getting the star adjuster to go all the way in.

The proper way to adjust the parking brake is to adjust the star wheel until you can't spin the wheel and then back it off a couple of "clicks" at a time until the wheel spins freely, then go apply the parking brake and then release it, check wheel again for free spin, etc.

After that it should take 5 to 7 clicks when depressing the parking pedal to fully engage the brake, if much more than that the cable needs to be adjusted under the center console storage.

Yeah, the pedal goes almost to the floor and there's no change in parking brake feel, so the center adjustment will be next on the list along with maybe dripping some triflow down the cables to loosen them up.
