Rear bumper options - recommendations?

Guys,

I know this is probably easily found via a search, but I'm on Tapatalk and won't have access to computer and Internet for a few more days.

Would love to see some pictures and hear about all of the various rear bumper options. Specifically, I am looking for something without a Tire Rack. This is my wife's daily driver and also our family camping/expedition/overlanding weekend warrior.

I routinely use the hitch for a bike rack so the bumper has to have a 2" mount. Need to ditch the stock hitch as it sits really low and likes to drag over even easy obstacles.

Any good recommendations?

Here's some pictures of my savage rear bumper.

I bought it because of the price and local SoCal pickup.

Brian - looks really good! Unfortunately I'm in PA so anything I buy will have to add at least $100 for delivery.

What are the oval things on the side of the 4R that is exposed once the OEM bumper is removed?

Does the flat top part of your bumper stick out about same depth as OEM? I use the back bumper as a step pretty often.
 
I'm thinking Perkins performance it's the cheapest plate style available and it comes powder coated. I also like the shape the most out of all of them, however I hate the little gap they leave in-between the body and bumper. If there was no gap I would order one today

This is what I got when I emailed them.
"The rear is $675 and comes standard with 1" shackle mounts, 2" receiver, black powdercoat, and grade 8 hardware. We can add the spare tire carrier for $315, cb antenna mount for $15, and hi-lift jack mount for $65. The spare tire carrier is built from 1.75"x.134" mandrel bent DOM tubing, and rides on a CNC machined pivot with stainless hardware. We use our "two-turn" handle to keep everything tight, and it’s a 1" bolt with an easy to use handle welded to the top and never needs adjusting or maintenance It will accommodate up to a 35" tire. All of our bumpers are CAD designed and engineered. They are Lasercut and formed from de-scaled 3/16" steel and use 1/4" for the mounts. Every product we build is completely bolt on, superior quality, and comes with a lifetime guarantee!
Shipping per bumper is $250 to a business, and about $120 more to residential. We are 6-8 weeks out on all products, and we require 60% down to start on a build. Please feel free to give us a call when you are ready to order, or if you have any questions at all! Have a great day"

Wow. That's a lot of shipping money!

Any pics of what the setup looks like? I posted in the SW thread but wondering if any of the tire carriers are easily removable. Could be the best of both worlds to put the carrier spare and gear on back for trips but leave it off most of the time for easy access into the hatch.

Yeah it is maybe one day they will run a special? look on 4runit build he has one. I saw the shock works and I don't know why I just don't like it it looks like too homemade for me.
 
Also 4xinnovations is coming out with one soon but they have no details so I'm going to Waugh for that to see if I like it. I love my front from them so I hope the rear will be just as good

That's interesting... would definitely like to hear more and by hear more, i'd like to see it, and by see it I mean that I'd like a sample model to put on my truck.
 
Yep I'll be working on one here shortly. I'm don't have any details available yet other than to say it will have all the standard features including a rated hitch built in as well as an optional swing out tire carrier.

I think the key to that type of tube bumper looking good is exactly what Brian did: paint the underneath areas the same color. Otherwise it looks like a skeleton body under there. :bravo: Brian

I like plate bumpers myself

The thing about the plates and hybrids is the sharp-ish corners. I have kids (and a wife) who I just know would get poked or scraped by one and then ask my why I got one with corners...

You don't have to have sharp corners on a plate bumper. It just depends on how it was designed.

I do like that 2nd gen rear, but I wish it had one or two more vertical bars on the sides to hide the vents a bit more. I think the savage is the way I'll go, eventually (aka when SWMBO lets me) :argue:
