Rear bumper step pad Help.

Does anyone know how the black rear bumper step pad is attached? Mine is faded and I am looking to replace it with a new one. Wasn't sure if it popped off or it was screwed in some how.

Clips are part of the pad material.You can pop it off, but it helps if you go at it from underneath and pinch the clips together with a pliers and push up.

I've always been able to cram my fingers under it and pop it, straight upwards, starting at one end and working towards the other. It's even easier with gloves on.

Just pull up on it pretty good and it will come off. Also don't replace it. Take it off, buy a heat gun if you don't have one already. You can get one for $30 at harbor freight. Turn the heat up and take it slow over the entire piece. It will seriously restore it like new. It's amazing to watch.

They make these nice plastic tools you can grab from eBay, I use them for all trims. They come in a bunch of various sizes, really handy to have around your garage. Just search plastic removal tools on ebay.

I did it on mine. Those for $50 on ebay aren't gonna be OEM. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in how long they stay black or how well it fits.

It's dirty in this picture, but it's as black as it was new.

I completely agree. The tools don't scratch the plastic. Also helps in preserving those clips and the holders for the clips in the trim piece itself, which if you break could ruin the trim piece. I've used the heck out of mine, which I picked up local

What my son and I did on his was to simply wash it down good, and give it a light scuff with a scotchbrite-type pad. Then we hit it with a couple coats of bumper/trim paint from a rattle can. It turned out looking like new!

Exactly what I did to mine. Turned out great!

I also spray canned mine and it turned out really nice. I havent had any problems with paint chipping or anything like that. I think i used a can of krylon plastic paint.
