Rear bumper, what would you pick?

What rear springs did you upgrade to with the addition of the C4 rear? I currently have the Icon 2" rear springs, was hoping I could just keep them, but have a feeling ill need to upgrade to the Icon overland springs....

Yes I would consider the single swing out. I'd probably drive up to their shop and take a look at theirs but the bigger table is a big plus in my mind. Let alone it's much easier to get in and out of. (think about how many times you'll be opening those swing arms!)
I remember seeing a video of the single swing out latch design at some point. I believe it was on Instagram. I was very impressed with the design of it.
As I said for me no cutting is key. I haven't had good luck with cut plastic body panels.

It is expensive. However, coating the bumper yourself you can control the quality of how it's coated. I know my coating is bullet proof because of who I used. I also know all the prep work was done correctly. And it didn't have to hod up to being shipped coated.
Also keep in mind very few of the quality rear bumper options are any less. (CBI, Expedition One, SSO and what Pelfrey was pre bankruptcy) C4 is keeping their production times in line by not having to send it out to be powder coated.

If you want to feel better about it consider this. I paid in full for a PelfreyBilt bumper I never received before I ordered a C4. Ultimately I'm really glad I don't have any Pelfrey stuff on my rig and I am 100% happy with my C4

I am using Dobinsons C59-677V Progressive Rate Coils with Radflo 2.5" struts (This is a 3" setup so there's a bit of rake unloaded)
I looked at the Icon overland springs but I didn't think it would handle the weight in my setup. The Dobinson's coils are fantastic. I couldn't he happier. Even fully loaded it doesn't squat much and rides nicely empty and full.

Everything on the market for the rear is quite heavy and only a few address rear quarter protection.

Since just about everything run's 3 grand+ anyways with all the bells and whistles I was thinking about getting a custom tube bumper built. I have no idea how much that would cost I would just think it could be close or less.

-Frame dimensions
-Width from taillight to taillight

What I'm getting at is... if everything lines up there are off the shelf items for other gens that might work.

there are 2 or 3 members on here that have one off tube rear bumpers or hybrids. I wouldn't mind running a tube bumper if someone made one. You should email c4 or sso with your idea.

Just finished putting the SSO rear bumper on this past weekend.

Looks great...I would pass on the side ladder myself, but it looks fantastic. Can you post some pics here once you have the tire and accessories on??

Also, is that the bolt on or "integrated" rear hitch? trying to understand the difference in terms of clearance and installation....

On a more serious note, I would go c4, I just like their design better. The SSO is way too heavy, and I find the tailgate a bit unnecessary,.

There's a lot of good bumpers out there. I haven't seen them talked about much in this thread, and at the risk of repeating myself, I'll throw support behind 4x4 Labs. I understand that the OP doesn't like the looks of them, which is subjective, but from an objective standpoint they hit a lot of marks, so I'll discuss those for anyone else reading this.

Foremost, from what I've seen they are the highest clearance rear bumper and utilize an integrated receiver hitch that's flush with the bumper face. They also have very few moving parts, with the load spread across two pivots (spindles) with a single clasp. They feature heavy gas struts in place of locking pins to keep them open, strong enough to keep the 37" tire on my cruiser open on a side slope. They also have a variety of carrier options, including a ladder, bike rack, hi-lift mount (and hi-lift recovery points built into the bumper), fuel/water carriers, baskets, tables, antenna mounts, etc. I'm a personal fan of how simplistic and modular they are.

Anyways, no association, just used their stuff on 3x vehicles now and am a big fan of their functionality, strength, and clearance. The deck on their rear bumper is also large enough to be used for small tasks, like sandwich making etc.

I'll play ball here and give some info from my experiences, I will never buy another CBI product again!

Sorry to hear about your experience. CBI is going the way of Pelfreybilt. Doing a lot more talking, social media, events, tradeshows and partnering with boobtubers than actually making products. They acquired Prinsu Racks and the quality has gone down-hill since. You can't get accurate or good information of their products on their website.

I don't have any CBI products but I've seen enough smoke that I'll stay away from them. They seem dishonest at best.

Back to the OP's question. I'd suggest C4, Shrockworks, 4x4 Labs, Brute Force, and Relentless. While I think the C4 has the best design it is the priciest and all I really want is a rear bumper for a tire and fuel carrier and maybe the table. If it was my money I'd go with Shrock, Brute, or Relentless.

Ever thought about making a walk around video of your rear bumper? Now I’m interested in this bumper. I wanted a Hefty Fab rear but their lead times are insane.

I'll play ball here and give some info from my experiences, I will never buy another CBI product again! My front bumper which was supposed to be complete and shipped to me between 8-10 weeks took almost 24 weeks but the 16th week mark they just kept saying soon and it was done and waiting on shipping then at 20 weeks they told me it was complete and being shipped finally at 22 weeks I was informed that now it is shipping. I received the bumper only to find it damaged and it was not damaged from shipping. The shipping crate and packaging was in perfect condition but underneath the foam and wrap that didn't have so much of a smudge on it, there were multiple gouges, scrapes, and scratches. I was missing parts along with finding plenty of powder coating discrepancies only to be told that's how its supposed to look when powder coated. Fast forward 2 weeks I finally get down to Expo east and my first order of business was to confront CBI which I did and I wanted their rear bumper at the time but was very hesitant. We came up with a "solution for the crap powder coat shipping issues and other things and I was assured on an 8-12 week shipping time max on the rear bumper so I ordered. Well, here we are week 15 and nothing. I was ignored for 3 weeks I was at one point again told my bumper was complete and ready to be shipped 2 weeks later told that my bumper was still in production and they had no idea when the completion date was or when it would ship or anything of the sort. So I emailed back and said I was going to cancel the order and the response I received was in not so many words ok cancel it if you'd like (as if they didn't give a shit to lose a customer because they don't). They did not try to do any sort of customer retention or any sort of customer service or figure out a solution so I did just that and I canceled my order and I have since ordered a C4 rear dual swing out. I am very happy with my choice and although I'm set back another 12 weeks I would rather wait longer and not sport and promote a CBI rear bumper and would rather use a C4 bumper which after a lot of research I think is a better product than the CBI bumper anyway!

How long ago was this? I have their front bumper in steel and almost gave up on them after a couple of months of waiting. Had them power coat it and it came out great.

My vote is for C4, love the way it looks. I went with their lo pro front bumper and sliders, and as far as I can tell, quality on their stuff is top notch.

Too bad I can't afford the rear bumper :crybaby: starting to sell off some of my other hobby gear to stack some $$
