Update:
That release date will be a little late (around Expo East) as we will be releasing the rear bumper, the swing-outs, and swing-out accessories at the same time.
Some of this is repeat info but I'll include it anyway.
The swingouts will be modular, meaning they are not permanently fabricated to the bumper. You can get a bumper and add one (or two) carriers later, or install them for a long trip and remove them later down the road if necessary.
We will have several swing-out accessories ready when the bumper is released.

No problem sharing opinions.
There are several reasons we decided to cut for this bumper.
- It allows for a slimmer bumper, which will make a difference in weight.
- We try to design following the body lines (as opposed to seams) of the truck for a more factory-integrated appearance.
- There is no structure in the way that needs to be cut, only plastic.
- The factory plastic bumpers can be had for $100-$150 if for some reason you need to go back to stock.

I changed my mind. This is actually really cool. I love modular options you can build up over time.
I’m getting started with my first 4Runner after spending the last few years with my Jeep. After realizing the amount of abuse that can happen to the rear bumper area of the 4Runner on trails, I realized I needed a steel rear bumper.
