Rear Caliper Guide Pin Boot Came Out! HELP!

Hey all,

Tearing down my rear brakes for new pads and rotors. One of the guide pins was so dry inside the dust boot that it pulled the dust boot out of the pad cradle.

What's the best way to get it back in? I don't want to tear it as it looks like it's still in usable shape.

Been awhile since I have had mine apart, see if there is a metal ring to hold it in place, or if where the rubber part of the boot has a extended lip on it to be put back in place on a slot. Just be careful on either.

i use a flat head when i need to tuck those back in. obviously have to be careful though

Thanks for the prompt responses. The '03 bottom boot looks like a condom (apologize for the crass comparison!). I was able to put it back in with the eraser end of a #2 pencil. Then I got to the other side and noticed that that one was ripped. SO, had to buy new ones, and put them in with the pencil and a little silicon-based caliper/brake lube.

Just remember, if you are changing the pin boots, use a round file or emery cloth wound on a pin to clean the rust scale out of the holes in the calipers first. This rust build up could shrink the size of the pin hole and cause the caliper to bind on the pins and cause premature pad failure. I also coat the pin holes with brake grease, once cleaned, to help slow new rust growth.
