Rear camera install for VIOFO A129 plus duo dash cam.

The rear camera for this set up is designed to stick on the hatchback window. Not a good idea as the window can be lowered. Vehicle a 2022 SR5P

I have everything I need to do the install, including the correct Dongar adapter to get power from the rear view mirror.

Has anyone out there installed one of these rear cameras, obviously best just inside the hatchback in the overhead. I have searched all over for some kind of solution, including VIOFO and come up dry.

Tons of people have mounted a rear facing dashcam to the headliner. Small piece of plastic or aluminum to stick the camera to and pop the retaining clip out and use that

I am looking at that with maybe an L shape that I can stick the camera to. The tape is on the side of the lens. Red in photo

I cut up an aluminum sign , drilled a hole in it and mounted it to the headliner clip in the rear. the camera is just off set slightly to one side

It’s just a flat piece of plastic I found with a hole in it. I took the plastic pin out and pushed it through the hole in the plastic. I think I will find a bolt to replace it though. It’s been fine off road and daily driving for about a year.

It is 3d printed. I had a friend print one up for me. You can also message papadakko, he has mentioned before that he can print/ship one for you. I'm not sure what he charges.

Yes it does. Otherwise it would not work on anything but a vertical rear window. Sedans don’t have vertical rear windows and these dashcams are installed there all the time

OK, I see what you mean by rotate. I was thinking in a circular fashion. Yes it can be adjusted up/ down to accommodate various vertical rear windows.

I have the exact camera set up in my ‘22. I cut up an old clear iPhone case for the ‘mounting plate’, drilled a small hole and attached it with the factory plastic headliner clip. It’s been holding for almost a year now with no issues.

Yeah I probably should have specified the axis it can be rotated on.

This is how I finally mounted the rear Viofo A129 Plus Duo rear cam. I have it down a ways so I can easily remove it by prying the headliner retaining pin out if needed. Also the cable plugs into the top of the cam, so you need a little room for it as well.

I bought a new retainer pin from a dealer ($2.96) to use. Glad I did as the one that came out was a bit stripped. It likely would have been ok to reuse but I felt more comfortable with new. The mount is from a thin metal sign I picked up in a hardware store that already had holes in it. Sign was easily cut with a large set of scissors, no tin snips needed.

The mount is thin enough that it could easily be bent back into the vehicle overhead if ever needed to load something large and then bent back into position.

Here is a picture of the sign I got from Home Depot. A bit difficult to see the holes at top and bottom, but they are there. I painted both sides black but it only stuck on then lettered side. Came right off the slick unlettered side. Should have roughed it up with sand paper. I might make another one and do that at some point.

The one shown is plastic but I got the metal version.
