Rear Chirp anyone?

Alright, so I've been getting a chirp going over larger bumps consistently after installing the Fox TRD pro shocks. I've been able to isolate the chirp to the rear passenger side. I had someone double check it wasn't the the infamous hood latch chirp I've read so much about. Day to day driving is fine, just medium to bigger dips and bumps cause it.

At this point I torq'd down the track bar, sway bars and rear strut to factory spec's. I also sprayed some WD-40 on all the bushings. Chirp is still there.

Should I be using WD-40 or something else?

Have someone bounce on the back of the truck and get under there and listen for the noise. I have had a tiny bit of slop in the lower shock mount to that has drove me crazy before for a long time, but the fix was a small spacer that cost less than a dollar. It was obvious when a friend was rocking the truck by jumping on the trailer hitch. When I placed my hand if the shock, the sound disappeared.

Sounds are much more obvious when you have a helper and you can get under there

You should probably use a lithium grease instead of WD.
Good luck. Several members, myself included, have been fighting a host of abnormal noises from the factory Fox shocks.

I sprayed that yesterday, but I neglected the opposite side of the vehicle which has an identical cable.I didn't hear anything from that side, so I didn't bother. Either way, today, I spray both sides and what do you know.

It's gone!

UPDATE: It's back and worst! I even took out the brackets and the sound is still there, so that isn't the issue.

The weird part is I don't hear anything when I rock it or bounce it aggressively. It only happens when it's a fast or sudden hit up or down on the rear right side.

Is it possible the shock itself is squeaking? Should I go to the the extent of swapping out the shock?

That would be a good way to narrow things down. There's been a few folks here with noises from the rear with their TRD fox shocks.

The rear shocks are pretty quick to swap out, assuming you still have the OEM ones.

I assume you've ruled out the rear hatch and loose spare tire...

I don’t have Fox susp., but twice in 46k miles I've developed an annoyingly loud chirping noise coming from the rear. First time the little tool roll in the rear left of the interior was a little loose. The second time was after a tire rotation the shop didn't tighten the spare tire enough.

Both got progressively louder over time. Both were solved by having one person get in/under rear of the vehicle while someone else continuously opened/closed the rear hatch until the source was pinpointed.

I wish it was the spare. I took it out yesterday and problem persist. I'm going to do a shock swap today.

I had this same issue, and I thought it was my rear seat because I could've sworn it was internal.

Turns out, it was. Very frustrating when I learned that the squeak was being caused by....

THE OEM BUNGEE HOOK HOLDING MY JACK SUPPLIES INSIDE THE REAR QUARTERPANEL. I reset it, and the squeak was gone immediately. Haven't had an issue since, so it must've just been on a weird partly loose "setting".

(my emphasis added due to the sheer madness that I dealt with for the fix to be that simple)

Maybe that will help, but don't forget to look there!

Get a buddy to drive around while you sit in the hatch and listen for it. Obviously take it somewhere safe to pull this off but also somewhere that you can consistently replicate the chirp. That's how I found out that the stupid plastic fender clips were rattling from the OUTSIDE was coming into the cabin and driving me nuts for weeks! I ripped the entire trunk, and bumper and turns out it was just a couple of worn plastic fender liner clips. Try that first. It might be something unrelated to your shocks

Solved! So I put the original shock back on with the same bushing and everything. Squeak is gone. I thought maybe it had to do with me cleaning everything, so I put the Fox on back in and well the squeak is back...

Luckily, I am still in warranty with the Fox shock, so sending it back for a replacement. It's weird to actually have a shock squeaking apparently, but that seems to be the case.

Such a great feeling not having that squeak going over bumps.

Sounds like yours was a similar story to mine - mine started making the noise when I was on a week-long hunt in Kansas and driving back roads/gravel/dirt roads almost exclusively. The sound got so freaking loud that I was certain I was losing my mind until one day I got the tools out for something and ended up fixing the noise. Then it started again and I went straight to that area, moved it/wiggled it around, and the sound disappeared. Haven't heard it since, but that's the first place I would look for sure.

today i put some bike chain lube on the rubber doorstops on the the two rear doors and the tailgate, plus wiped down the door seals, and that stopped it.

The absence of suspension noises is a great feeling.

I hope you have better luck with fox customer service than I ever did. Hopefully toyota will take care of it for you.

Fox is pretty bad. I called yesterday and they told me to check the forums for information. Which fox shocks do you have?

I had fox 2.0's and 2.5's on my nissan titan years ago. I had a hell of a time getting a missing bushing from them. I was surprised at their poor customer service.

King has been the complete opposite. I've bought a lot of stuff from king ever since. I'm a stickler for great customer service, especially when thousands of dollars are in play.

But I sincerely wish you good luck getting that squeaky shock replaced

Good news I received my shock replacement and it doesn't squeak. I was doing some offloading over the weekend.
