rear coil retainers

wondering if anybody as tried to create rear coil spring retainers?

it's not an issue with stock suspension setup but once you move the gas tank out of the way and then get longer travel shocks.... well they will fall out pretty easy

I have some idea's but I'm wondering if anybody has tried anything? or any generic on the market stuff that you have seen?

Limit straps are what you're looking for - or similarly, longer coils that are more compatible with the shocks total travel. Straps would be miles cheaper but require welding on brackets.

limit straps would be pretty easy, the hardest part would be getting the measurements correct.

as a thought experiment...

I have installed rear radius arms from a Prado.

I have out-boarded the shocks and moved the gas tank.

all of those things are working great, love how it's all working.

so now... really the thing that limits the travel is the track bar arc of motion.

so if I could figure out a way to keep the coil from falling out? I could totally use the upper arm connection points to put in straps. or I could see if I can find a set of coil-overs and work out that arrangement and dump the rear coils all together. I know other vehicles have spring retainers (jeep? gasp I said it)

just looking for ideas really? if I could just keep the coils in place then the rear 3 link setup is really simple and clean.

I thought I saw someone that bolted the coil spring cone in place so it guides the coil back to where it belongs on the top side and used a small u bolt for the axle side of the coil, but I could be making that up entirely. I have the memory of a goldfish sometimes.

Yea I have been thinking about that one, if you could keep the cone in place and then have a retainer down on the axle? probably would work and give you a hella clunk when things hopefully slammed back into place! what was that?

I was the one that attached the plastic tube to the frame and it has worked great for years with not one neg issue. I drilled a hole in some 1 inch flat stock, about 3 inches long, welded the nut to the flat stock and slid it up on top of the spring perch. put a bolt with a large fender washer up thru the plastic cone and bolt it to the flat stock. this holds the plastic cone in its original position and it cant move. The spring can slide down up to 4 inches during flex and will return to its correct position with no issues. The only down side is if you ever change rear springs the cone will not move and getting the springs in takes a little muscle. very quick and easy to do and its not visible.
