Rear Coil Spring Changeout

To the experts out there please let me know what you think.. I changed out the rear shocks/struts on my 96 T4R Sr5 (196k miles) a few months back. The OEM ones were blown already which was causing my rear end to slam onto the frame at deep pot-holes and speed bumps.. Well, I changed them out with Monroes (lifetime warranty) from Oreilly's since it's just my DD. No of-froading here.. at all..

Well it did get some what better than before, but im still hitting frame from time to time. Is it time to change out the OEM coil springs?? With a hard push down on the rear bumper the truck does go down and bounce a few times before coming to a stand still. Ultimately, before ordering parts I would like to get some feedback.. Thank you!!

If so, I've researched a bit here and there; feel free to correct me if Im wrong.. Going with the 99 coil springs would gain me 1" extra?? And just in-case, would 4x4 coil springs fit directly on mine since Im only 2WD??

Yes, 4x4 springs will fit in your 2x4. I put Old Man EMU 906's in another members 2 wheel drive rig.

I put 99 rear coils in my rig, and yes, you do gain a huge 1" lift.

Height on a 2WD will be slightly higher (maybe 1/2" front and 1/4" rear) than the equivalent 4WD vehicle. Springs/shocks bolt in the same places though, so it is a direct swap.

No problem. Newer trucks come with rake so when you load down the back with gear, you're not sagging. But if you have a ton of rake, it will look ridiculous.

I just recently installed a medium heavy Old man Emu 3" lift on the rear of the Sequoia and raised the Billstein 5100 in the front, I also put a factory TRD Trail Team front leveling kit off of an FJ on the 4 Runner Among countless other maintenance and mechanical work I had to do to both rigs. The question I have is, will the OEM rear springs off of our Sequoia fit on our 2003 4 Runner, and if so will it give us any add left and load capability in the rear. I've exhausted all of our excess funds doing everything up to this point and I'm trying to do the rest of the mods on a very limited budget. If anyone knows if this will work it would be awesome to know.

Do you remember or have access to the part number of the ome spring. The sequoia springs might not fit the upper and lower perch of a 2003 4runner. I know that they don't fit the 3rd gen. For the 4th gen ome offers 3 springs 895 heavy load, 896 heavy load, and 897 constant heavy load.
You can go to the 4th Gen forum which is for 2003 to 2009 4runners and ask. hope it helps.

If you end up with too much rake for your liking you can always put in a leveling kit in the front. (0.5-1.5 inch spacer will level it out for you). Fat Bob's Garage sells these spacers and installation is pretty easy.

because the 2WD version doesn't have the double cardan joint, the amount of rear lift that it can tolerate is less than what can be done on a 4WD. By how much, I don't know.

However, the 1999-2000 tall springs would be fine.
