to determine your rear diff ratio. lift one tire and take the runner out of gear. use chalk to mark both your dirveshaft and the tire. Turn the tire one 360 degree rotation and count how many times the dirveshaft turns. 4.10's will be 4 turns of the diveshaft plus about 10 degrees. 4.30's will be 4 turns plus 30 degrees. and so on. most likely you have 4:10's if nobody has been into the axle.

According to this chart I've got 4.30's. It seems that 4.10's are the norm, so are 4.30's and the E-Locker a somewhat rare combo?
That's true except the tire must be turned twice to account for the differential action. If you have 4.10s, one turn of the tire will give you 2.05 driveshaft revos, 2 turns will give you 4.1 revos. To get an even more accurate ratio, turn the tire 20 times and the driveshaft will spin 41 x's with 4.10s, 43 x's with 4.30, 45.6 x's with 4.56s, etc...
Keep in mind that the 5spd manual came with 4.10s and locker combo. Most auto's with the e-locker were 4.30's if automatic.

I printed your instructions on how to determine what gear-set one has in their rear diff.
I am a new member just purchased a 01 TR4 FWD with limited-slip.
I have to replace the rear diff. it is leaking oil threw the steel due to rust, nice!
I went to the dealer but we do not know what gear set to order because the door-jam sticker reads A/TM A02A but the parts manger says that is a 2WD gear-set with a ratio of 3:73 could the Japanese have made a mistake?
So we do not know what to order, he guessed replacement part # 41110-35890 which has a gear-set of 3.90 the only reason he picked this one was it was the only one that was not assigned a door-jam tag model #. He has never seen this before and yes all the VIN #'s match.

Jack up one rear tire and have a buddy spin it exactly 20 times while you count the driveshaft revolutions. 41=4.10s, 39=3.90s, etc...
