Rear Disk Brake Conversion Pt 1

Ok are you starting the part 2 yet?!.... ill be doing this mod this week but just wanted to ask what is the total length of the flex line with the fittings?... ive been procrastinating doin this cause my rear tires r gunna b a pain in the arse getting off
 
Sorry Guys Part II is going to have to wait. I am 2 weeks out of my wife having our second Son and I can tell you it won't get done before then. Sorry But I will get it done I promise but if someone beats me to it please post up here letting us all know.

Sorry I didn't answer this yesterday. they are 8" total length. If I had to do it over I would prob make them just a hair longer, like 10". Also make sure that wherever you get them made that they use ends intended for deep or shanked make hard lines. Good luck with the swap I still love mine.

I hear you on the surplus of time issue. My daughter is 16 days old and my work on the 4runner is limited to 20 minute occasional bursts. LOL
Still waiting on a part from summit to bleed my 76 blazer MC.

Haha reading this as I'm sitting in a shop getting my rear brakes and rear axel checked, depending on what they say I may just leave here and pick up the parts, lol

16 days old, congrats that is great. I am still researching late model MC that might be compatible.

This may have been asked before but why couldn't you do a front brake tundra swap and use your old calipers on the rear axle? I ran the idea past a hot rod buddy of mine and he seemed to think this was a good idea at first glance.

Anyone know why this wouldn't work?

Ha I had this same question. I was told that it would mess up the distribution of braking power. Having such large disks in the back. I have a 00' limited so I'm to understand that the limited came with slightly larger brakes. May not be an issue for Sr5's but I don't know.

Thus, I can assume with the correct proportioning valve adjustment, the front brakes would work in the rear?

There is no reason to have such a large caliper in the rear anyways, there is a reason most cars/trucks with rear discs have tiny calipers compared to the front. The front should handle the majority of braking, the rear tires will break loose far too easily in heavy braking scenarios with big calipers

there are several reasons but the main two are system balance and the front calipers have no provision for e-brake.

Anthony, I don't think there would be a big enough difference to get the balance right and let me just say that for a daily driver you really want an ebrake.

why must i come across something awesome like this right after I just put in all new rear drum brakes springs and all. I could easly find all that in the junk yard for less then I just spent on the new stuff. Half the time the brakes in the local junk yard are new from a freshened up used car that didnt make it to the road but bought up for scrap.
 
Rockdawg, did you ever get your ebrake squared away? I'm getting ready to do this myself, and was curious if you ran into any snags or if you had crossed that bridge yet at all.
