Rear Dome light issues.

So the light works on the "on" position but not the "door." I have inspected the wiring running to the rear hatch latch with no visible issues. I have check the switch at the lamp with a junkyard replacement and also checked the latch with a junkyard replacement. For what it is worth the middle dome works fine in both "on" and "door" positions.

Additionally, possibly unrelated, about the same time my key fob has stopped working. Good batteries and solid transmission according to the AZ tester they have at the check out counter. Electric locks work fine from the driverside door too.

Try jiggling the switch that senses the hatch is open. My rear driver side door has that issue.

Ill look into that...never noticed a box under the driver seat.

I have...including cleaning it out thoroughly.

I am having the same issues, light works with on but not door for the hatch. Did you test the switch with a meter or just clean it? I dont even know where the door switch is for the hatch, I am assuming I have to take the hatch apart to get to it. I did notice that when my rear door switches went no amount of cleaning fixed them, I had to replace them

Must be a trend, mine is the same way. Don't really even know where to start checking to find the "switch" that turns on the light.

My mistake...I assumed it was the same style switch as all the other doors.

In my old VW there were micro switches that were internal in the latching mechanism. Could be the same in these trucks..

I actually replaced it with a cleaned one. I didn't think I would have too bad of luck as to have two bad hatch switches.

The side door all have pressure switches on the frame of the body. The rear hatch has a switch inside the latch.

Mine is apparently a different model. I think the box your referring to is located under the rear hatch panel, I don't have anything under the front seat.

You won't unless you have an add-on alarm. 1999 factory keyless entry is built into the back door ECU and the Body ECU.

oops, my 98 has the box under the driver seat, i thought the 99 was the same way.

There was no factory keyless in '98 and before. It only came with the add-on RS3000 alarm (the box).
