Rear Door Lock Cylinder

Has anyone had trouble with the rear hatch lock freezing up? Not like winter time cold weather freezing... I can't turn mine the the key. And I'm not using a valet key because I can lock and unlock the glove box. Should I squirt some graphite in there?

PB blaster should clear that up, spray it in, then follow up a day or 2 later, it should be good then.

Actually I was just outside messing with it... I just needed to put a small amount of upward pressure on the key and it turned. Good to know my window switch works too!

Still doesnt hurt to spray some WD-40 in there, it will help prolong the life of the mechanism.

it isnt the lock cylinder it is your key! i had an mr2 and i had the same issue with the trunk the key and the ignition wear at the same rate ant the locks that don't get used ie trunk or tailgate are still looking for the crisp key edges if you go to a good locksmith they can cut you a replacement key not be copying yours but by seeing the profile it should have and making it for you it took mine two attempts but i never got locked out of my trunk again best $12 imaginable especially when your ttops are in there and its pouring!!!! best yet if you have your key tags (i'm lucky enough they were in the owners manual) go to the dealer it will be perfect

Still could be the lock assembly, it was on mine. I have to squirt WD40 in there about once a year and it works fine after that with my original key.

Please don't use WD-40 in your locksets, it gets gummy over time and with the dust it attracted while "wet" will make you think its seized in concrete!!!

Remember, its for the lock's sakes!!

Get your hands on a cleaner....brake cleaner will work........thoroughly clean the lock........let it dry and try a dry lube like graphite. If you insist on a "wet" lube, use a good gun oil, or PB Blaster......anything but WD-40.
