Rear Door Struts won't open at 15 degrees

2000 SR5. I hunt in cold weather, sometimes down to 0. I have to prop open rear gate because it won't stay up. Read about Strong Arm struts in this site. Will they open and stay up in cold weather, really cold weather? If not any suggestions?

I noticed mine doing the same thing at 3°, works fine when warmer

I guess you could replace em but probably not worth the money n might not solve issue even then but when it's warm (65°+) they'll go all the way up. I have a 98 and a 99, they both do it. Few weekends ago 16°, hatch closes, next weekend 76°, it stayed up fine

I thought mine were going bad this winter, but never considered the cold air contributing to the poorer performance. We had it up at the Grand Canyon, and they didn't work at all (early morning temp up there was 12f). I just replaced them with some aftermarkets because the OEMS were so expensive.

I recently repalce my stock one with Strong Arm and I am very happy for now. The colder we had since I replaced them was about -10 celcius. I'm waiting to see how they will do at -30.

I have the strong arms (the heavy duty ones) and while it didn't pop up all the way, once I pushed it to the very top it stayed open in -20 F last month. It actually came up most of the way on it's own too, I only had to push it up the last few inches.

My monroes go up most of the way also. I replaced them last winter. I wish it went all the way up on its own.

mine are oem, I guess I'm lucky because when its zero outside they go mostly up , if they have a chance
usually I have so much snow on the back ( by the back bar of the rack) that it keeps the tailgate from going up without me clearing snow away, after I do , I'm often have to push the tailgate up maybe the last 6 inches.
to me its just been part of winter routine

Thank you for your comments. Looks like I'll try Strong Arm HDs. It sounds more encouraging than trying to find a tree branch to hold up the rear door or get hit on the head.
