Rear drive shaft bolts

Hi Everyone,

Replaced the clutch and transmission in my 4runner a couple weeks ago and buggered up one of the companion flange nuts getting the rear driveshaft off.

It's not super stripped, but it took a lot of heat, PB blaster and hammering it with the impact to get it off, and it's starting to round.

I thought I'd go to the dealership to order a new one but the part they have in the diagram doesn't actually fit the bolt on the rear companion flange of the T-Case (Part time 4wd version). It's just a tad too small. The front flange takes M10x1.0, I believe, but it looks like the rear takes M12x1.0 which I can't find anywhere - not even Fastenal which is my usual go to.

Does anyone know what the part number might be for this or where I could possibly order one from?

It's p/n 90179-11005. It's M11x1.0 available absolutely nowhere except Toyota and for Suzuki head studs on some model. On Amazon:

It was out of stock two years ago when I did my clutch so I researched the Suzuki thing. I was actually pleasantly surprised just now to see it is now available again from Toyota.

I just don't understand why the dealer got it wrong. M10x1.0 goes on the diff end.

I also possess very hard to find M11.0 x 1.0 tap and die for chasing these wacko threads.

McMaster-Carr carries taps and die in M11 x 1.0.

You can also find the M11 x 1.0 nuts at Fastenal. You don't need the flange anyways. Flanged nuts are completely worthless unless they're serated, and then they're still partly worthless.

If you get a regular hex nut you can use wedge washers to hold the nut in place. These washers work better then anything out there, and takes a lot of force to remove.

I swear the parts guy and I were looking at the diagrams and it listed the same part number for the nuts on the front and rear flanges of the t-case.

M11 makes sense size-wise. Doesn't really make sense from a "why in the hell would you do that" perspective, however.

The ones for the front flange are M10: 90179-10059. Pretty damn clear to me. Were you looking at the shaft diagram? Because they aren't even on the TC diagram, just the center nuts are and THEY are the same on both.

Were you looking at the TC diagram? Because those nuts aren't on the TC diagram, only the center nuts are and THOSE are the same. The stud nuts are only on the propeller shaft diagrams. The front ones are M10: 90179-10059.

Nope we were looking at the DS diagram. Not sure how we got it wrong.

Fastenal didn't have any M11 , you're right. 7/16"-20 is super close but for something as vital as the drive shaft, I'm just going to pony up for these asininely sized bolts from Toyota.
