It should be in the FSM, check there.

it sounds to me like your pinion bearings are going out. pinion bearings are pre loaded once they wear you loose the pre load and you pinion moves forward giving you too much backlash between the ring and pinion. you should be leaking a little oil at the pinion seal usually. you should not get 1/2 turn on your yoke.

I wouldn't say I have a 1/2 yoke turn (half of a revolution), but rather 1/2" to 3/4" angular turn.

if you are saying 1/2 in to 3/4 inch play you pinon bearings should be ok if pinon bearings are getting bad you should have a deceleration howl from the ring and pinion.
