Rear end feels loose

Over the past couple of days my rear end has felt loose- that's the best way I can describe it.

When going around corners it feels like the rear end is getting dragged around instead of following the front. Almost like the end is starting to kick out on ice (it's not) It's acting like I imagine it might act if I had a cracked control arm mount. All of the control arm brackets appear to be solid (at least as far as I can tell from a lay on my back in a parking lot inspection)

Shocks seem to be good. If I shove the truck laterally from the rear corner it seems solid.

It's not an obvious OMG what is going on, more of a something doesn't feel right but it might be serious.

Anyone ever come across this? Ideas?

Check your tire pressure. I always start simple and go from there. Or maybe the bushings are starting to wear out in the rear suspension links if that's not the case?

It could be broken rear sway bar links. Could also be rusted out rear trailing arm frame brackets because that's a weak spot for rust, but I hope not because that would not be good.

Haven't checked that lately but I suppose I should! They look fine though, you'd think they'd have to get pretty bad to affect the handling as much...

Sway bar links are good. Control arm brackets seem fine too (that was my first thought and yes, that would definitely not be good)

Check lower control arm bushings, check where the LC arm brackets attach to frame inside and out, check the frame as well. I had a twitch when accelerating or tweak when cornering on one side and it was bushing for the LC arms..................you would need a big pry bar to find it however.

Not much that can contribute to this. Here's a full checklist. Shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes to check all this stuff.

Upper Axle Links - these are prone to failure. Make sure they're in one piece
Lower Axle Links - Make sure the bolts are snug. This has been known to cause play in the rear axle.
Shock mounts, upper and lower- make sure they're tight
Panhard bar - are your bushings in good shape? Any play? This isn't usually causing any play but can feel "clunky" when the sleeves start to wear out.

That's about it. Report back once you've done some work.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll crawl under there this weekend and give it a proper look to see what's up.
