Rear floor vents always running

I have a 2000 sport edition. As soon as I turn the engine on air starts blowing from the vents under the seat. In addition sliding the switch on the back of the center console seems to have no effect.

Is it supposed to always run and the switch is only for temperature or is this something I need to fix? I'm concerned it will affect my fuel economy.

Should be shutting off if rear console is set to off. Is there a button too? I've never really look at it, only flail my arm back there when a passenger leaves it on.

Hahahahaha. There is a flat switch near the heat control to turn it off and on. You just can't see or feel it from the front.

I don't know how I missed that. I guess I saw where it said "off"on the slider and just became blind to the actual switch. I feel so stupid hahaha

Like it's seriously been days that this has been bothering me. I seriously got dressed and walked out to my truck to see if I was really being that dumb haha

Don't feel bad. I had the same problem for a week and only found the switch by accident to turn it off.

This is like the Subaru world with the parking light switch... up until a few years ago, there was a switch on the top of the steering column to turn the parking lights on, separate from the standard steering column stalk (headlights/parking lights only come on with key on - except that switch!). Always gets turned on by car wash workers... And has drained many, many batteries.
