Rear gate window problem :(

I just tried to lower my rear gate window via the switch on the console, no responce :redbrick:. I used the key in the gate, window goes up and down just fine. Left it down half way and tried the switch up just to make sure it was not a down only problem, still no responce, dead at the switch. Of course I am going out to town and their service hours suck so will not have it fixed before I leave! I hate they they are going to dismantle the console to fix it, things are never the same when you start to remove/replace pieces. I bet I will find a couple marks on it where they try to pry it up too. I will try to stay positive but this does not make me happy. I do like this 4R a lot but my old dodge was 11 years old and never had a window switch or motor fail, but it did have its other fair share of issues. I have never left the sunroof open to rain, I'm the other driver so I know nothing was ever spilled either. I thought I remember one other member having this problem?

Check the fuses.

That is going to be my 1st step when I get home, technically no reason for a fuse to blow, if there is, something else is wrong in the system. I wanted to call the dealer 1st to set something up, always easier to cancel than book later, well except for this time, ha.

Or it could have been a bad fuse. Clearly, the motor is good and the key switch works. With all the dust I collect back there on the forest roads, I'm shocked it still works.

Please check that the window lock-out button is not pushed on the driver's side door. I scared myself with that once in my 2001 4Runner.

Ha, 'so the plot thickens' as they say! I found out my brother needed to move my 4R at work so he could move a couple other things around, put it back in the same place, and you got it, hit the window lock out button! Interesting to know that affects the rear one as well. I had a window lock out on my last SUV but the rear one did not drop, part of the reason it did not cross my mind. Also, I figured the window lock out was mainly so others could not lower the windows, more so for people in the back, kids, etc. Since the rear is really only driver controlled (i guess pass too if you are oblivious) I figured it would not be associated, but i am wrong!

9 months owning the 4R and I NEVER hit the button, he gets in it ONE time and manages to press it, go figure. I am sure I would have realized as soon as I went to drop one of the other windows what was wrong. :ybrick::dammit::rockthrow::bash:

This whole thread is made of awesome. We both started thinking of things that could of broken or gone bad and it was the over-exuberance of the engineers at the root of the trouble. I love Toyota!

Volvo used to have a "bulb integrity sensor" on the dash that let you know you had a bulb out somewhere. Pretty handy. I have told lots of drivers at traffic control signals (stop lights for you pessimists) that a brake light was out. Never on a Toyota of course. Some drivers are reluctant to roll the window down. Guess I must be scary. Most of us don't run a check of our rear lights very often. At least I know I don't.

Glad you got it fixed w/o a trip to the dealer. I know what they can do to dashboards.

Toyota hasn't even put a light on half the buttons that are pressed that would be normal......like the party button - when is it in and when isn't it........several others like that.

So getting a button to light up when it is pretty clear if it is pressed in or not (unlike other buttons) is probably a big fat - won't happen

LMAO....This happened to me 2 days ago. A sense of panic set in, and then realized that I pressed the window lock button when I washed her so the kids dont ruin that clean window look by rolling it down while the rubber and insul. was still wet....

I hit the window lock this morning and tried all the window, the drivers side one actually worked, makes sense I guess, but my last one locked out all of them, including the driver. I said above that I would have realized the lock was on when I would have tried the windows but now I wonder if I just tried the drivers and it went down what I would have done, lol.

I did this same thing last week; you're not alone! Thought I left something loose when I hardwired the radar detector.

Side note on the console - you can get to the rear-window switch & associated wires without any tools. The two silver panels under the AC both pull off (clips only) and the top of the center console (shifter, RW switch, heater switches, etc) pulls off by hand as well. As long as they used something plastic they wouldn't have had to mess it up too much!
