anyone have their rear hatch lock break loose from the plastic studs. jb weld is not going to get it. Did you buy a new tag assembly or repair it or what did you do. Its easy enuff to get to it, however, just wondering what direction you took on it.

I know this is an old thread, but resurfacing in case anyone has some info. I've seen a lot of threads on stuck hatches or replacing the lock mechanism but not for this issue specifically.

As the OP mentions, the rear hatch lock cylinder has broken loose from the plastic nuts which are attached to the hatch itself. The lock cylinder no longer has a way to be held in place. Has anyone else ran into this issue and what did you do to address it?

Mine had this issue when I got it and I tried using epoxy to put the lock cylinder back in place and it worked for a bit but it ended up breaking loose again while trying to roll down the window. I fixed it by getting a brand used license plate panel from pick n pull and swapped it out. Just have to watch or know what panel you have because they changed them in (i think) '99 to a bigger style one.

I have a 2001 4runner and when I went to toyota they quoted me 550. to replace the plastic piece that failed. My lock is fine. I certainly don't have that money but need to be able to use my liftgate. Can you help me with the where you got the replacement and what it is actually called? I am a novice...to say the least and need to fix this myself. Thank you
