Rear hatch

I have an 05 runner... the rear won't open with the fob, the defroster and wiper won't work unless I open the window and close it. I have to have the truck running to unlock and open the hatch. I've gone to two mechanics and that can't fix it. What's going on with it

Does the top brake light work when you lock/ unlock the truck?

It seems like it a a pretty universal electric problem - I’d fish out the wiring harness from the roof and see how they both look. I’d use a multimeter or other tester to check the voltage and continuity of all of it.

You can also check the wires as they run from the truck through the rubber hose into the tailgate to see if anything got torn or looks in need of repair

As I inadvertently learned today that the wiper and defroster are disabled if the window is not fully closed. Possibly it's not correctly sensing that the window is closed or something is in the upper track that is keeping it from fully closing.

Good point. Make sure the tailgate is fully latching and closing and that the window is all the way up

Its so weird like it won't work unless the car is on and I roll down the window a lil but to use the wiper... the door is dead completely if I don't have the key on.
