Rear Hitch Bumpers

My dad just about closed the deal on a 2005 4Runner Limited V8 4WD. Since he will be parallel parking in New York, you HAVE to cover the front and rear bumpers (NY drivers). We have the front taken care of, but I want to put on one of those bars that plugs into the hitch and protects the back bumper. Where could I get this from and what brand would be good? Thanks for any help!!

they are the rhino hitch step bars. i haven't researched the price on them because i found something better (IMO). my T&H guard covers the corners of the bumpers also (which get scratched the most here in chicago).

Try Cabelas.com or one of the many online SUV parts site. Black is $69 and chrome is like $89. They even throw in a nice nylon bag to store it in.

I have my black hitch attached now.

BTW...before your dad closes the deal, have him insist on the OE Michelin Cross Terrains before taking delivery. ;):

Thanks for the help everyone. I told the dealer that we wanted only Michelins Cross Terrains but they said none of the 4Runner's on the lot had Michelin tires to change with. Instead, they threw in a lot of accessories for free. The truck has the Bridgestone's on it. They can't be worse than those Dunlop's!! Thanks for the heads up though!

Go Rhino

$69 shipped. Cheapest I've found on the net. Make sure you get a lock for the hitch. I got a Master Lock at AutoZone for $15.

There's a thread somewhere about rear hitch stuff.

Bobby, thanks for that link. I think that website was the most reasonable. That will be the one we will go with. Now, what would look better on a Pacific Blue truck, black or chrome? Also, thanks for the tip with the lock. It never even crossed my mind.

The link is for the black powder coated one. I don't think they sell the chrome version. I personally don't like chrome anything on any of my vehicles so I might not be the best person to ask :p.

since it'll be a blue vehicle.. i believe the black one will look best. chome+blue.. not my top 5 choices.... and my list only has 3. :D

Thanks to everyone for their help. The black hitch step it is. We are actually picking up the truck in a few hours!!

Dang - Sporty's quit carrying the go Rhino hitch step. I placed the order via their web but they called and said they don't carry it any longer. Next best "shipped" price I've found is a little over $90 for the cheap one.

JC Whitney's has it on sale for $74.95.

edit: I just checked their website and it has the original price but I got a catalog a few days ago and it was the above price. They also have free shipping until Apr. 6th.

Bobby, thanks for the info
I tried to order by phone today and they cannot give me the $74.95 price without the special non-internet part number and the number of the catalog it is advertised in.

amazing

if you have it handy I'd appreciate those numbers

On their web site they say the free shipping only applies to orders of $125 or more. Does the catalog say that, too?

I'm not on their mailing list any more.

when you get the hitch step don't forget to get the lock for it.

haro, thanks for the advice. I ordered a lock with the hitch step and now it can only be taken off with a key. I used to live in New York where not even your airbags were safe on your car, so locking it up was the first thing that came to my mind!

hey mark86
I had 2 car stolen from me here in ny.
but don't sleep on nj, newark has been rank # 1 city in car theft

New Jersey is definitely not a safe place either for a car. I live in a relatively safe area, but around 5 miles away from where I live there is a problem with cars being broken into so you always have to keep your eyes open. I would rather leave my truck in Manhattan all week than in Newark though. You have no idea how many people that I know of that left their vehicles in the long-term parking lot when they went on vacation but weren't there when they went to pick it up.
