Rear license plate thingy

So I just received the plates for the wife truck, went to put them on and was like wtf.

Is everyone just bolting the plates right up against the paint?

I just cant do that.

Do they make a piece that the license plate can lay against so it doesn't scratch the paint?

Rubber washers and 1/8" neoprene tape will fix it

Also, use antiseize on the bolts, trust me.

Dealer temp plate was plastic, I just mounted the new plate on top.

Just picked up this last Friday. I have always just mounted the plate directly to the truck. But, I like the temp plastic dealer plate idea. I also always go to the Depot or Lowes and pick up some stainless button allen head M6 screws to replace the factory. Won't rust, looks better, and adds a bit of extra work for anyone who might want to commandeer them. They are machine thread screws and work just fin in the front plastic mounting piece as well.

I had the same issue. Got one of these cu'z I didn't like the cheap white frame from the dealer. Goes well with the magnetic grey.

Hey do you guys slice up your reg stickers after putting them on in order to foil thieves?

I just put my new sticker on but didn't cut it up this time, yet.

I’ve used this same one for the last 4 or 5 years. Works great. Keeps the plate clean and no marks on my vehicle. Just moved it over to my new 4R. Probably will plasitcoat the brushed steal for this vehicle.

Good point and suppose that is true. Never had an issue here in Michigan or any of the other states I’ve driven through in the past 10 years.

PA stopped issuing stickers, but they used to come pre-scored with basically an asterisk shape across the sticker. They would peel off the backing just fine, but would tear into small pieces if you tried to scrape them off of the plate.

Put 2 rubber grommets in the plate and then put bolts trough it. It is water tight and gives you soft point of contact with paint.

After applying my reg sticker I do several crisscross razor cuts making it very difficult for a thief to peel off the sticker and put it on their own expired plate.

I ended up using some stick on foam pieces under the plate. Now there is no metal plate touching the truck. Thanks for the tips guys.
