Rear Lights on 03/04 4Runner

Just bought a 2004 4Runner, and I can't figure out what the bumper-mounted rear end lights are for. Please see picture below.

They're combined with reflectors and they appear to have light bulbs in them, but nothing seems to turn them on...

Any info would be appreciated.

My last two cars (96 4Runner and 90 Corolla) were both totaled due to getting rear-ended. Maybe I'll wire these up as additional brake lights. Couldn't hurt...

I thought the same thing when I read that thread. I'm really curious as to how it looks. Something to consider.

Hopefully you have better luck with the new ride. Too nice a truck to hit like that, or hit any way for that matter.

Post some pics if you decide to wire'em up.

Here's a photo of the light used as an aux brake light. I have the AVS tailshades installed, so it's actually brighter than the regular brake lights in daylight
