I went to WalMart today to get my oil changed (I usually do it myself, but I didn't have time). They told me that they can't change it because Rear Main Seal is leaking. What does that mean, and what can I do to fix it?
Your rear main is where the output from your crankshaft goes into the transmission. While it's leaking you're getting oil all over your clutch and increasing the odds you'll have to replace that too, so you should be thinking about doing it soonish.
To replace it you'll have to drop the transmission. To be honest, if you're not up for changing your own oil, the job is likely to be beyond your ability. I don't say that to discourage you from trying, I'm trying to be realistic.
I just went through 2 FelPro seals that leaked on my new engine. The 3rd time we used a Toyota seal and no more leaking. I can't explain why but save yourself the headache and be sure to use a Toyota brand seal.
