Took the air filter off to wash it and since I finally got a GoPro and I was bored I decided to make a quick video of the business end.

Do you ever have issues when you hit a large puddle of water? I mean with posably cracking the hoising ? Bad ass set up.

I haven't. Done some water crossings and puddles and it's been good for over 4 years now.

Nope. I just run high octane fuel and colder range spark plugs and no detonation. I'm sure I could squeeze more power out of it with more fuel or meth/water injection but just haven't yet.
 
impressive setup!

How much boost do you run? and at what RPM do you hit your full boost with the turbo that far away on the exhaust?

Also, what turbo are you using on there?

I know it looks like spool would be affected on a rear turbo setup but it doesn't take a split second to compress the pipes. I'm sure it doesn't lag at all with a 3.4l turning it.

7psi / .5 bar.

It depends on what gear it's in and how much you have your foot in it. But if you're are just talking about leaving from a stop at wide open throttle it hits 7psi at around 2200rpm. Or you can just brake boost it and leave at a full 7psi but one tire just spins.

pretty awesome. Even if it's a smaller turbo, I would have thought that there would be a delayed spool due to the loss of heat caused by the exhaust length, but it sure does not seem to be the case.

I would think there is a delay but nothing you can see in real world conditions. I ran a long route intercooler kit on a car that over 6 feet extra pipe and calculations showed it would take about .1 of a second to charge that extra amount of pipe. The chevy v8 guys around our town had zero lag on there rear turbo setups back in my street racing days (dont do that anymore) and would just fly all over. Almost like they was supercharged.

On the exhaust end you think cooling that air down before being reheated by the turbo would be a good thing to allow a cooler more dense charge to the intake.

No E85 down in Baja so it will be 91 and lots of octane booster. You can get about 320hp/360tq at 5psi on the vvti 4.7. Bolt on turbo, bigger injectors and pump, trd supercharger ecu - easy, sort of.

 
Are you running an intercooler or is it cool enough being rear mounted? A TMIC could finally make these stupid sport hood scoops on all our trucks useful...

No intercooler on this one. Rear mounting does help with reduced heat under the hood heat soaking everything. I did do a test a couple years back on intake air temperature because of that same reason when I saw some underhood turbo setups and supercharger intake air temps over 200F. Even when I was in Arizona doing pull after pull it only got up to like 135F.

That's not bad at all. I've been thinking about doing a similar setup. I'm new to 4Runners but have a pretty extensive background in vehicles with forced induction (subaru's and MR2's mostly). One thing I've always liked in the Subaru world is the v-mount style intercooler/radiator setup they ran on most of the WRC cars. Might work well on these trucks since the stock radiator/trans cooler setup sucks anyway not to mention it hangs down way too low. But your truck definitely gives me some motivation!

After my lift and tires right after I bought it in 2011 the truck seemed so sluggish I needed more power. I had already turboed other cars in the past and came across STS rear mounts and just realized how simple it would be to make my own. I didn't pioneer it but still loving it 5 years later.
 
Incredibly badass, definitely could satisfy the little bit of "jump" my runner is craving.
