Rear O2 Rusted Off

Today I heard a new rattle, then a few miles later the exhaust tone got real loud. I knew exactly what it was, and a roadside visual inspection confirmed it; the rear (post-cat) O2 sensor and bung have rusted off the pipe. I'm guessing I need a new pipe and O2 sensor (duh). The sensor should be pretty easy, but I fear the pipe is not. And even if I do find a new one, I doubt the existing one will come off the cat nicely. They seem to be rust-fused together. Anyone else dealt with this?

I think a run of the mill muffler shop can fix that with some squinty-eyed welding

They even sell a new bung to weld on. If you need one of those.

I do need a working cat and sensor. MD does emissions testing every other year. And go figure I'm almost two years into ownership. Assuming I can get this pipe off the cat without cutting, anyone know where I can source a new one?

I vote for welding it where it's cracked if possible. They're not gonna look under the vehicle during an emissions inspection (I'm in MD too).

Help! Those who have purchased aftermarket cats. Which one do I get? These two from Eastern have different flanges for the upstream side.

It's Non-Cali. pre- 2001. 2000 was the last year for Federal one-cat systems.

Had to come check out this post, as I just dealt with the same issue last night, except the nuts completely rusted away on mine, and the sensor was rattling in the pipe and the gasket was gone. Was driving me crazy trying to figure out what was rattling!!I ran the correct die over the stud threads, replaced the sensor with a new gasket and put new nuts on. Seems to be all good now.
